Front Panel Features

The display, keys, RF, and USB connectors are located on the front panel. The test set includes a number of keys and a Cursor Control knob that enable you to navigate Windows without connecting a USB mouse and keyboard. However, you can use the test set more easily and efficiently when a USB mouse and keyboard are connected.

BACKSPACE Key

Use this key to delete the previous data entry.

Cancel (Esc) Key

Use this key to cancel the current task.

Cursor Control Knob

Rotate the Cursor Control Knob to highlight the parameter boxes within a tab or window. When the parameter you want is highlighted, push the Cursor Control Knob to select the parameter for input.
If the parameter is numeric, rotating the knob also allows you to increment and decrement the value.
Rotating the Cursor Control Knob also moves through list items or cells of appropriate parameter types (like list boxes or tables).

DIALOG BOX NAVIGATION Keys

With the DIALOG BOX NAVIGATION keys, you can move through and select options in standard Windows dialog boxes, such as the Date and Time Properties dialog box. They can also be used to move through hyperlinks in web pages or Help topics. (To click a hyperlink, you can push the Cursor Control knob).  

Tab Left/Up Key

Use this key to perform one of the following actions:

Directional Arrow Keys

Typically, the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys enable you to perform the same types of operations as rotating the Cursor Control Knob.  

Typically, the LEFT ARROW and RIGHT ARROW keys are used to position a text cursor (caret) within a text or numeric entry field for data entry and editing. However, these keys may also be used to navigate between tabs on a window, or horizontally through table cells in a single row. They can also be used to set the increment digit of a numeric entry field.

Display

The test set display has the following characteristics:

The test set's applications run on the Windows XP Professional operating system. The Windows user interface appears on this display.

Enter Key

Use this key to select the parameter for input, or to carry out the command for the active option or button.

MEASUREMENTS Keys

The MEASUREMENTS keys allow you to perform operations with measurements, for example opening measurement-related windows, resetting all measurements and batch setting of measurement triggering.

Meas Select Key

Use this key to open the Measurement Selection window. The Measurement Selection window allows you to activate and close measurements and measurement suites.

Meas Reset Key

Use this key to reset all active measurements and measurement suites. All the current measurements and measurement suites remain open but all their results are cleared.

Start Single Key

Use this key to start all measurements or measurement suites that have their Trigger State parameter set to single trigger mode.

Single All Key

Use this key to set the Trigger State parameter for all measurements to single trigger mode.

Cont All Key

Use this key to set the Trigger State parameter for all measurements to continuous trigger mode.

MENUS Keys

The MENUS keys enable you to access different types of menus without the need for a mouse or keyboard to be connected.

Main Key

Use this key to make the main drop-down menu of the application or window active. After the main menu is active, you must use the directional arrow keys to navigate through the menu items. Pushing the Cursor Control Knob, or pressing the Enter key selects a menu item.   

Pop-Up Key

Use this key to display the pop-up shortcut menu for the active window, item, or parameter. Pop-up shortcut menus provide access to useful features such as context-sensitive Help or equivalent SCPI syntax for a parameter.

MouseKeys Key

Use this key to turn On or Off the MouseKeys Accessibility Option. With MouseKeys, you can use the Numeric keys on the test set (or numeric keypad on your keyboard) to move the mouse pointer and to click or double-click. MouseKeys is useful if you do not have a mouse connected to the test set.

When MouseKeys is turned On, the green indicator light is illuminated.

Numeric Keys (Cursor Control)

When MouseKeys is turned Off, use these keys to enter data, change the sign (+/-), or add a decimal point (.).

When MouseKeys is turned On, use these keys to move the mouse pointer and to click or double-click. The icons on the keys denote the mouse pointer direction and left-click mouse operation (5 key).   

On/Off Key

Use this key to turn On or Off the state of those numeric value parameters that have a state property.

Power Key

Use this key to turn the test set On or Off. When the test set is turned On, the green indicator light is illuminated. Turning the test set On starts Windows, the test set's application software automatically.

Turning the test set Off shuts down Windows and safely turns the power Off automatically. It is recommended that you close all open applications before turning Off the test set.    

PROGRAMS Keys

Select Key

This key is not functional for this release.

Switch Key

Use this key to cycle through the test set's applications and other programs in the order they were opened.

RF IN/OUT

This Type-N connector is the default path for all RF signals out of the test set, and is always used as the RF input. The maximum input level is 5 W (+37 dBm) peak.

RF OUT ONLY

This Type-N connector is an optional path for all RF signals out of the test set. It is intended to be used for duplexed testing. The maximum input level is 250 mW peak.

SCREENS Keys

The SCREENS keys allow you to quickly open the three types of screens used to perform tasks with each application.

Main/Call Key

Use this key to open the application's Main screen. The Main screen is opened by default when an application is initially started, after a test set preset, or after you have switched applications.  

You can use the Main screen to set up generator and analyzer parameters and view current frequency and level settings.   

Meas Key

Use the Meas key to open the application's Measurement screen.

You can use the Measurement screen to set up, activate and view the results of measurements.

Config Key

Use the Config key to open the application's Configuration screen.

You can use the Configuration screen to switch between licensed applications, configure the test set's amplitude offset feature, view the error message log, and obtain version information about the test set's hardware modules.

Softkeys

Use the softkeys (function keys) to perform the function described by the label in the adjacent display area. The label is blank if the softkey has no defined function in the current context.

Speaker

The speaker enables you to hear sounds played by Windows (for example, to indicate a system event). The audio volume can be adjusted using the Sounds and Audio Devices option in Control Panel.

USB

There are two front panel USB-A connectors for use with slower speed products (1.5 Mbps and 12 Mbps). In addition, there are four rear panel Hi-Speed USB-A connectors for use with high-speed products (480 Mbps).  

Use the universal serial bus (USB) connectors to connect USB devices and controllers to the test set (for example, mouse, keyboard, external storage device). You can connect or disconnect USB devices without shutting down or restarting the test set.

Note that before you disconnect a USB device, you need to inform Windows that you are ejecting, removing, or unplugging it, by using the Safely Remove Hardware item in the notification area. (The notification area is located at the far right of the taskbar.)

Note, the test set may not turn on if a USB storage device is connected to one of the USB connectors, therefore ensure that any USB storage devices are disconnected before turning on the test set.

UTILITY Keys

Quick Save Key

Use this key to save setups to a predefined register name.

Save Key

Use this key to save setups that you commonly use so that you can recall them quickly when you next need to use the same setup.

Recall Key

Use this key to recall setups that you previously saved.

Print Key

Use the Print key to open the Print dialog box within the active program or window. The Print dialog box allows you to select a printer, set its preferences and print the current screen.

Full Preset Key

Use this to perform a full preset of the currently selected application.

Partial Preset Key

Use this to perform a partial preset of the currently selected application.

Local Key

Use this key to set the test set to Local mode from Remote mode. When in local mode, the test set is controlled from the front panel instead of remotely.

Help Key

Use this key to open the test set's Help at the topic most relevant to the current context (for example, tab or window).

To open the test set's Help at the Welcome topic, select Help, then Contents from the application's main menu.

VIEW Keys

Next Window Key

Use this key to switch to the next window within the active screen.

Zoom Key

Use this key to switch the size of the active window.  

When the window is at its normal size, pressing the Zoom key increases its size to fill the whole workspace of the active screen.

When the window is filling the whole workspace of the active screen, pressing the Zoom key restores it to its normal size.

The active window must support the Zoom feature for this key to perform an action. Some windows do not support the Zoom feature.
