How to Use Activity Logging for Stress Testing (and the Scripting Tool)

Last Updated: 2011-06-23

Interactive tests are also said to be "activities" that the Interactive Functional Test Software performs. The Interactive Functional Test Software displays any current or pending activities in the bottom portion of the screen. The item then disappears when the activity is complete. These activities can be saved to a file to view and analyze after the activity log is stopped.

Activity Logging allows you to log the sequence of events in which activities happen. Activity logging is controlled differently for Interactive Testing and Stress Testing or while running scripts. This topic describes how activity logging is controlled as well as some considerations for Stress Testing or while running scripts in the Scripting Tool.

To capture an activity log during for a script or a test plan:

To capture an activity log while running a test plan (in the Stress Testing screen), you must select Turn on stress activity logging. See figure one below.

Capturing an activity log while running a script in the Scripting Tool is similar to capturing a log while running a test plan; you must select Turn on script activity logging.

When you click Run Test Plan in the Stress Testing tab or Run from the Scripting Tool, any activity log currently running is stopped.

Other Considerations:

The following are things to keep in mind when you wish to capture an activity log during stress testing. For more information on the activity logging parameters available during stress testing, see Activity_logging_parameters_available_for_Stress_Testing.

The Interactive Functional Test Software provides details such as the time and type of activity for each activity that is captured. Details of the existing activity log files can be viewed in the View Activity Log tab.
