PN Offset

Last updated: November 10, 2006

PN offset (called Pilot PN in C.S0024) defines a cell. The PN offset indicates the timing of the cell's short codes relative to system time (PN sequence offset in units of 64 PN chips).

PN offset is sent in the Sync message (see TAP/ETAP Data Connection Call Flow ).

PN offset can be changed in the Idle State or Session Open State . PN offset can be changed during transient states that do not have a traffic channel connection present (see TAP/ETAP Data Connection Processing States Lifecycle ). Similar to an implicit handoff, (see Handoff ), the test set changes the PN offset without signalling to the access terminal. If PN offset is changed while a session is open, the session close timeout (see Session Close ) is restarted to allow time for the access terminal to respond to the change.

PN offset can not be changed in the Connected State , or during any transient states that have a traffic channel connection present (such as Session Negotiate State ).
