RTAP Rate

Last updated: June 16, 2006

RTAP Rate determines the rate at which reverse traffic test packets are sent by the access terminal (AT) when an RTAP connection for subtype 0 physical layer is established in Active Cell operating mode. It is included in the Packet Rate Mode attribute in the RTAP Parameter Assignment Message sent to the AT. For details, see Test Application Protocol .
RTAP Data Rate (for Subtype 0 Physical Layer)

Rate Index

RTAP Data Rate (kbps) RTAP Data Packet Size (bits) Modulation Format

1

9.6 256 BPSK

2

19.2 512 BPSK

3

38.4 1024 BPSK

4

76.8 2048 BPSK

5

153.6 4096 BPSK

When an RTAP connection is first established, the access terminal starts transmitting at 9.6 kbps and then increases its data rate to the RTAP Rate.

The transition probabilities used by the AT when changing data rates are determined by the Transition Probability .

When Limited TAP is on and Test Application Protocol is set to FTAP, RTAP Rate is also used to set the Rate Limit field of the Unicast Reverse Rate Limit message. The Unicast Reverse Rate Limit message is used by the test set to control the transmission rate on the reverse link for a particular access terminal. The Rate Limit field indicates the highest data rate that the access terminal is allowed to use on the Reverse Traffic Channel.

RTAP Rate can be changed at any time. If a connection is open, it will be maintained.

Operating Considerations

The RTAP Rate setting is only applicable to the RTAP connection for subtype 0 physical layer in Active Cell operating mode. To set the reverse traffic rate for an RETAP connection for subtype 2 physical layer, see R-Data Pkt Size .
