4.3.1 Range of Open Loop Output Power

Last updated: November 13, 2008

Definition

This test verifies that the access terminal transmits at the proper power level determined by the open loop output equation. It is important that the AT transmit at the proper power level without the assistance of closed loop power control adjustments so that it can acquire a traffic channel successfully.

Method of Measurement

  1. Connect the access network emulator to the AT.
  2. Set Probe Sequence Max to 1 sequence.
  3. Set Preamble Length to 7 frames.
  4. Set Open Loop Adjust to -78 dB or -81 dB, depending upon band class.
  5. Set the AN forward packet activity to 100%.
  6. There are 3 tests which evaluate the AT's performance for Î or at high, medium and low levels:
    • Test 1: Î or = -25 dBm/1.23 MHz
    • Test 2: Î or = -65 dBm/1.23 MHz
    • Test 3: Î or is set to a level between -103 and -81 dBm/1.23 MHz, depending upon band class and access terminal class.
  7. Set the access network to ignore all access attempts.
  8. Send a page to the access terminal.
  9. Measure the output power of the access terminal during transmission of a probe (this assumes probe Power Step is set to 0 dB and all probes will be at the initial probe power level, so measuring any one will suffice).
  10. Repeat all tests with a forward packet activity of 0%. (This verifies the AT is able to transmit at the proper open loop power level when the forward channel is bursted.)

NOTE
When the AT supports Subtype 3 Physical Layer and in a multi-carrier measurement, the access probe power measurement could not be made only on the auxiliary unit, this is because the AT will not send access channel on the auxiliary carrier.

Minimum Standard

The access terminal output power shall be within +/- 9.5 dB of the correct level (this includes 0.5 dB allowance for test equipment uncertainties). A Probe Initial Adjust of 0 dB is assumed in calculating the correct level.
