This document describes features and functionality that are part of the Agilent Technologies E1966A 1xEV-DO Terminal Test Application releases. This document contains the original features, as well as enhancements that have been added over time.

Access Network Emulation

Access Network Emulation

  • Support the following bands and frequencies. See Cell Band and Channel . (An additional current Revision to Current (R2C) license is required to enable this functionality in a licensed test application) .
    • PAMR 400 Band
    • PAMR 800MHz Band
    • Public Safety 700MHz Band
    • Cellular Lower 700MHz Band
  • Add the new setting "Preamble Length Slots" to support for 4 Slots Preamble Length. See Preamble Length Slots . (An additional current Revision to Current (R2C) license is required to enable this functionality in a licensed test application) .

Access Network Emulation

  • Supports protocol release B.

    The Release B Multicarrier (See Multi-carrier Multi-unit (MCMU) ) is offered as feature option 103 for multi-carrier call testing. It supports for up to 3 carriers in the multi-carrier mode for both FMCTAP and RMCTAP testing.

       
    NOTE
    You must purchase a feature license (E1966A-103) from Agilent Technologies to enable this functionality in a licensed test application. However, purchasing the E1966A-103 feature license from Agilent Technologies does not grant you use of the Qualcomm® proprietary Release B functionality. You must obtain consent from Qualcomm® to utilize this feature, as explained in the following statement:

    NOTE
    Besides the Release B feature option (E1966A-103), the Multi-unit Synchronization feature option (E1966A-406) and the Release A feature option (E1966A-102) are also required on the E1966A to run the 1xEV-DO Release B functionality.
       

    With the protocol release B selected (see Protocol Rel ), the test set can emulate new air-interface standard (3GPP2 C.S0024-B) which offers the ability of multi-carrier testing.

    • Supports subtype 0, subtype 2 and subtype3 physical layer protocols for protocol release. See Release B Physical Layer Subtype for setting details.
    • Supports both the Default and Enhanced Access Channel MAC protocols for subtype 3 physical layer. See Access Channel MAC Subtype .
    • Supports Multi-carrier Test Application Protocols (MCTAP) for protocol release B plus subtype 3 physical layer configuration. Note: we currently does not support Default Packet Application (DPA) for protocol release B with subtype 3 physical layer configuration. See Multi-carrier Test Application Protocol for setting details. For a general overview of MCTAP, see C.S0029 Test Application Specification Description (TAP/ETAP/MCTAP) .
    • New parameters and settings (Multicarrier Info in Call Control 2 of 3 in CALL SETUP and all parameters in this setting) for multi-carrier operation are added for release B plus subtype 3 physical layer configuration.
    • New parameters and settings ( External Device Connection in Control 2 of 2 in SYSTEM CONFIG and all parameters in this setting) for multi-unit connection are added for release B plus subtype 3 physical layer configuration.
  • Cellular Upper 700 Band

    Cellular Upper 700 Band (Band Class 7) has been added to support new frequencies. See CALL:BAND and CALL:SETup:BAND<[:SELected]|:DIGital856> .

  • Tx Timing Advance

    Tx Timing Advance can be set on the test set to compensate the loopback delay in case a component with excessive RF delay is included in the test environment. See Tx Timing Advance

  • Early termination (See Termination Parameters )
  • FM Converter (See FM Broadcast )
  • User Calibration Summary

    The user calibration history and the current operating temperature information can both be displayed on the front panel. See User Calibration Summary .

After installing this firmware release, you must run the Digital Average Power calibration. Ensure that your test set has warmed up at least 30 minutes and that no power is present at the front panel RF connectors before performing any calibrations.
   

Access Network Emulation

Enhancements

  • The Fast Device Tune measurement is now supported on the RF OUT ONLY port, and includes a complete front panel user interface. See Measuring Fast Device Tune for details.
  • ACK Channel Bit Fixed Mode Attribute is now divided into ACK Channel Bit Fixed Mode Attribute (Fwd TAP) and ACK Channel Bit Fixed Mode Attribute (Rev TAP). ACK Channel Bit Fixed Mode Attribute (Fwd TAP) is used when the test set is configured to FTAP (Forward Test Application Protocol) or FETAP (Forward Enhanced Test Application Protocol), and ACK Channel Bit Fixed Mode Attribute (Rev TAP) is used when the test set is configured to RTAP (Reverse Test Application Protocol) or RETAP (Reverse Enhanced Test Application Protocol). Access Network Emulation

Measurements

  • Added a new Fast Device Tune measurement ( An additional feature license is required to enable this functionality in a licensed test application. See www.agilent.com/find/8960upgrades for more information )

    The Fast Device Tune measurement allows you to simultaneously calibrate your access terminal's transmitter (TX) output power and receiver (RX) input level across level and frequency in a single sweep (per frequency band range). See Fast Device Tune Measurement Description for details.

  • The Waveform Quality + Code Domain Measurement is enhanced to support new reverse channel structure of Release A subtype 2 physical layer. See Waveform Quality + Code Domain Measurement Description for details.
  • There is no change for all other existing measurements to support for release A subtype 2 physical layer tests. For release A subtype 2 physical layer tests as defined in C.S0033-A test standard, you are required to establish an ETAP test data connection (FETAP for AT receiver tests and RETAP for AT transmitter tests) instead of TAP test data connection as used in the release 0 tests. The Test Adherence to Standards lists the tests that are supported by the test set and provides the direct links to the related manual operation procedure for making the test.

Access Network Emulation

  • Supports MEID type of Hardware ID

    Mobile Equipment Identifier (MEID) is a new way to uniquely identify AT equipment. MEID is a 56-bit number that allows for a larger number of ATs to be identified than the existing ESN numbering system. MEID is a type of Hardware ID that is supported in the 1xEV-DO. See Hardware ID Type and Hardware ID for details.

  • Supports settable CDMA system time.

    The CDMA system time is the time reference used by all IS-856 and IS-95/IS-2000 systems. The test set emulating an AN allows you to set the CDMA system time which are sent to the AT in the overhead messages ( Sync Message and SectorParameters Message ). For details, see CDMA System Time Parameters .

  • Supports IS-856 Test operating mode:

    The IS-856 Test operating mode provides a way for measuring access terminal (AT) when it is not possible, or not desired, to communicate via over-the-air signaling with the access terminal (AT), but forward link stimulus and reverse link measurements are still needed. For details, see IS-856 Test Operating Mode .

  • Adds a new setting - Preferred Control Channel Cycle (PCCC) Control

    By control of the session negotiation for the PCCC, the PCCC attribute can be configured to follow the test set's specified value or the AT-requested value during session negotiation. This provides flexibility for AT test because it allows ATs to determine the PCCC value without having to know the valid PCCC values for each AT under test. For details, see Preferred Control Channel Cycle .

  • Adds a new setting - Session Close

    The session timeout was changed from a fixed setting (3 minutes) to a user-settable parameter. This setting specifies the time period for which the test set has not heard from the AT before sending a SessionClose Message to the AT. For details, see Session Close .

  • Frequency Range of US Cellular Band Changes

    It is to support an extension to the existing Band Class 0 that is being allocated in Japan. The forward link frequency range of US Cellular cell band is changed from 869 - 894 MHz to 860 - 894 MHz and the reverse link frequency range of US Cellular cell band is changed from 824 - 849 MHz to 815 to 849 MHz. See Cell Band .

  • Channel Range of US Cellular Band Changes

    It is to support an extension to the existing Band Class 0 that is being allocated in Japan. The channel range of US Cellular cell band is extended to include the channels of 1024 - 1323. See Channel .

Measurements

  • Tx Dynamic Power Measurement Enhancements

    This measurement has been changed since its first release in the E1966A A.02.15 Release - January 2004 . Before performing each power step measurement in a power sequence, the test set automatically re-tunes its receiver based on the measured power of the prior step in addition to the Power Step Size setting that is only based on in the old releases. This change improves the test set ability to measure those ATs that do not correctly transmit the power sequence as expected without aborting the measurement. See TX Dynamic Power Measurement Description for details.

  • Packet Error Rate Measurement Enhancements

    A new setting, Minimum Packet Count, is added to the Packet Error Rate Setup menu. It is required for fading test. See PER Measurement Parameters for details.

  • Spectrum Monitor Enhancements

    Span and resolution bandwidth can now be set independently, new Detection Method. See Resolution Bandwidth and Frequency Span and Detection Method for details.

Other Features

  • Adds a new calibration - Burst Mod Offset 1. It is used when the test set is configured to generate test signals (such as AM or DSB-SC) in calibration of mobile stations that are based on Zero Intermediate Frequency (Zero IF) chipsets. See Calibrating the Test Set for details.

A.02.32 Release - August 2004

The functionality present in this release is identical to that in the A.02.20 release (see A.02.15 Release - January 2004 ).

Resolved Known Issues

  • Call processing stability can require instrument reboot.
  • Instrument can occasionally lockup when sending CALL:OPER:MODE? command.
  • Occasional missed messages on Control Channel.
  • Session may not open if the default preamble length is changed.

A.02.15 Release - January 2004

Transmitter Measurements

  • TX Dynamic Power Measurement - This new measurement provides a fast calibration method that covers the typical 90 dB (from -60 dBm to +30 dBm) dynamic range of a CDMA access terminal. See TX Dynamic Power Measurement Description for details.
  • Channel Power Measurement Enhancement - A new measurement speed, Very Fast, is added to the channel power measurement. The very fast speed channel power measurement samples the input signal for 1/4 slot (0.3125 milliseconds) with immediate trigger upon receipt of the measurement request. See Measurement Speed .

A.01.37 Release - August 2003

Access Network Emulation

  • Made pilot drop a settable parameter instead of a fixed setting. (See Pilot Drop .)
    The pilot drop parameter should be set to 18 (-9 dB) for most operations and test scenarios (some C.S0033 tests specify that pilot drop be set to -14 dB, such as 3.2.1 Demodulation of Forward Traffic Channel in AWGN ).
    This release also corrects an error in the A.01.34 release of the E1966A firmware. The A.01.34 release incorrectly sends a fixed pilot drop value of 60 (-30 dB) instead of the intended 28 (-14 dB). This low pilot drop value can cause dropped connections when moving from high to low cell power levels, during a handoff, or when operating with a high level of AWGN.

Access Network Emulation

  • Changed the Transition Probability used by the AT to determine transition probabilities. Set all transition probabilities to 100% (0xFF). See Transition Probability .
