Dormant State

Dormant State

Last updated: January 16, 2009

This section is only applicable to the lab application.

In the dormant state, a PPP connection is open but the physical connection (traffic channel) is closed between the access terminal (AT) and the test set.

The dormant state is an important advantage of the packet data service offering since it allows the AT's natural state to be dormancy where the AT does not utilize any radio resources and has minimal power consumption. The packet data connection can be reactivated from dormancy to the connected state without having to re-establish PPP link again when an IP packet arrives from the test set or any host on the network destined to the AT (for example, file transfer over FTP, ping the AT from the test set, etc.). This makes the connection faster.

The dormant state is a non-transitory state (see Packet Data Connection Processing States Lifecycle ).

To query the state of the data connection, see Data Connection State Synchronization .

Transition from Connected State to Dormant State

When the Session Application Type is set to the Default Packet Application , the packet data connection will transition from the connected state to the dormant state if

If for some reason the PPP connection can not be maintained, the test set will transition to Session Open State .

Transition from Dormant State to Connected State

In the dormant state, either the test set or the AT can re-activate the packet data connection by sending a Connection Request message when
