F-FCH Frame Pattern Setup

Last updated: October 28, 2004

This section is only applicable to the lab application.

The F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern Setup menu accessed by selecting the F-FCH Frame Pattern Setup ( F9 ) on Call Parms 4 of 4 provides the capability to specify the frame patterns to be sent on the forward traffic channel. It is available for both IS-95 system and IS-2000 system in Active Cell mode, as well as the IS-2000 Test mode.

A typical usage for specifying the frame pattern is for forward power control EIB test (see MS Reported Erasure Indicator Bit (EIB) Information ).

  • F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern State

It is used to enable (On) or disable (Off) inserting error frames in the frame pattern to be sent on the F-Traffic (IS-95 system) or F-FCH (IS-2000 system).

By default, it is set to Off indicating all good frames to be sent on the F-Traffic/F-FCH. When it is set to On, the test set will send the specified number of good frames ( F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern Good Frames ) and the specified number of bad frames ( F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern Bad Frames ) alternately on the F-Traffic/F-FCH when a call is connected.

    GPIB Command: CALL[:CELL[1]]:TRAFfic[:FORWard]:FPATtern:STATe

  • F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern Good Frames

It is used to specify how many continuous good frames in the frame pattern are to be sent on the F-Traffic/F-FCH when a call is connected and the F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern State is On.

The actual good frames generated in the frame pattern may be more than the specified value due to the signaling messages sent when Signaling Frame Quality is set to Good - Ignore Frame Pattern .

    GPIB Command: CALL[:CELL[1]]:TRAFfic[:FORWard]:FPATtern:GOOD

  • F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern Bad Frames

It is used to specify how many continuous bad frames in the frame pattern are to be sent on the F-Traffic/F-FCH when a call is connected and the F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern State is On.

    GPIB Command: CALL[:CELL[1]]:TRAFfic[:FORWard]:FPATtern:BAD '

  • Signaling Frame Quality

It is used to determine whether the signaling transmission is affected by the specified frame pattern when F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern State is on.

Selecting Good - Ignore Frame Pattern indicates the test set will send good frames regardless of the specified good/bad frame pattern when signaling occurs. This may result in the actual good frames sent greater than the good frames specified by F-FCH/Traffic Frame Pattern Good Frames . For example, if a frame pattern with five bad frames followed by five good frames is specified and the Signaling Frame Quality state is set to on, when a signaling message (a good frame) occurs during F-FCH transmission, the actual frames sent to the MS will be five bad frames, six good frames.

Selecting Bad - Follow Frame Pattern indicates the test set will always send good/bad frames as specified by the frame pattern even if signaling occurs. This may result in signaling corrupted if the signaling occurs on bad frames transmission. Since it is impossible to predict when signaling will occur so that it may result in a dropped call or other unpredictable things happening.

    GPIB Command: CALL[:CELL[1]]:TRAFfic[:FORWard]:FPATtern:SFQuality

    NOTE
It is expected there is no signaling message sent during forward power control EIB test. Otherwise, the Signaling Frame Quality setting may have impact on the EIB test result. The actual number of good frames is greater than the specified good frames due to inserted signaling when Signaling Frame Quality is set to Good - Ignore Frame Pattern.
