• FPC Mode

When the Forward Power Control ( F2 ) on the Call Control 4 of 4 menu is selected, all of the parameters and operations relating to forward power control (FPC) are available from the FPC Info menu.

FPC Mode ( F3 ) is used to specify whether the FPC operation is enabled on the test set and what kind of FPC operating mode will be used on the mobile station (MS). When a call is connected in IS-2000 system with radio configuration (Fwd3, Rvs3), (Fwd4, Rvs3) and (Fwd5, Rvs4) (see Radio Configuration ), the test set informs the MS of the FPC mode to be used via the FPC_MODE field in the Power Control Message . FPC Mode

FPC Mode	Description
Ignore FPC Bits	When selected, the test set will ignore the Power Control Bits (PCBs) on the reverse power control sub-channel no matter what is sent from the MS.
000 - Primary 800	When selected, the test set sets the MS to use FPC mode '000' as specified in the standard. In this mode, the MS transmits the primary reverse power control subchannel at 800 bps data rate and the test set will adjust the forward fundamental channel level according to the PCBs received on the reverse power control sub-channel in the specified power step size.
011 - EIB	When selected, the test set sets the MS to use FPC mode '011' as specified in the standard. In this mode, the MS transmits the Erasure Indicator Bits (EIBs) on the reverse power control sub-channel. The test set checks the received EIBs on the reverse power control sub-channel against the corresponding frames sent from the test set, and keeps a record of matched/not matched/not received frames in the EIB counters.

• FPC Mode <RC6>

This parameter specifies FPC Mode under radio configuration (fwd11, rev8). (see Radio Configuration ).When a call is connected in IS-2000 system with radio configuration (Fwd11, Rvs8) (see Radio Configuration ), the test set informs the MS of the FPC mode to be used via the FPC_MODE field in the Power Control Message . For more information on how the FPC works, see Forward Power Control Overview .

FPC Mode <RC6>

FPC Mode	Description
Ignore FPC Bits	When selected, the test set will ignore the Power Control Bits (PCBs) on the reverse power control sub-channel no matter what is sent from the MS.
000 - Primary 400	When selected, the test set sets the MS to use FPC mode '000' as specified in the standard. In this mode, the MS transmits the primary reverse power control bits in PCGs 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 15 at 400 bps data rate and the test set will adjust the forward fundamental channel level according to the PCBs received on the reverse power control sub-channel in the specified power step size.
011 - Primary 200	When selected, the test set sets the MS to use FPC mode '011' as specified in the standard. In this mode, the MS transmits the primary reverse power control bits in PCGs 3, 7, 11 and 15 at 200 bps data rate and the test set will adjust the forward fundamental channel level according to the PCBs received on the reverse power control sub-channel in the specified power step size.

Setting Considerations

• The setting of FPC mode applies to IS-2000 system with radio configuration (Fwd3, Rvs3) and above in Active Cell operating mode.
• A special FPC mode, Ignore FPC Bits, is provided by the test set for backward compatibility. It does not mean that there is an "Ignore FPC Bits" mode on the MS. The MS always works under one of the FPC modes ('000' through '110') as specified in the standard. When the test set is set to the "Ignore FPC Bits" mode, the mobile station will be directed to use FPC mode 000 and the test set will ignore the power control bits on the reverse power control sub-channel.
• When FPC Mode is changed in a connected call and the MS responds with a MS reject order or test set does not receive the MS ack order in a specified timeframe (~ 1 s), an error will be generated to indicated the situation. In this case, the call is still maintained and the last setting of FPC mode is kept.
• Changing FPC mode from any other mode to '000 - Primary 800' may be rejected due to an invalid code level summation check caused by the FPC maximum F-FCH Level setting. See Setting Considerations .
• When FPC mode is changed from '011 - EIB' to any other mode, all of the EIB counters are suspended by the test set. See MS Reported Erasure Indicator Bit (EIB) Information .
• The test set supports forward power control for the forward fundamental channel (F-FCH). The FPC_PRI_CHAN is fixed to 0 since the F-DCCH is supported by the test set.
• The Cell 2 always operates in the "Ignore FPC Bits" mode if a soft/softer handoff is performed. That is, the test set does not adjust the Cell 2 traffic level in response to the power control bits on the reverse power control sub-channel.
