How to Send MMS Messages ?

This section is applicable to the lab application and to a test application with the required feature license.

You can send MMS messages in different scenarios:

The tests can be implemented by following the general steps and some specific configurations below:

STEP A: Set Up the Test System

STEP B: Install the Software to Simulate MMSC/WAP Gateway

STEP C: Configure the Test Set

STEP D: Send MMS Message

STEP A: Set Up the Test System

You should set up the test system consist of PC, test set(s), mobile station(s) according to different Scenarios for MMS Message Transmission .

STEP B: Install the Software to Simulate MMSC/WAP Gateway

An MMSC emulated by an external software (such as NowSMS provided by Now Wireless Limited.) is required for MMS tests. You can download and get its functionality and configuration manual on the web:

www.nowsms.com

STEP C: Configure the Test Set

  1. Configure the test set's IP address. If you send end-to-end MMS messages, you should configure different IP addresses for two test sets.
  2. Press the Call Setup key.

  3. Verify that the Operating Mode ( F1 ) is set to Active Cell and the System Type ( F2 ) is set to IS-2000 for this example.
  4. Press the Data Config ( F11 ) to set radio configuration is (Fwd3, Rvs3) or above.
  5. Press the FCH Service Option Setup ( F12 ) to set service option for the selected radio configuration (such (Fwd3, Rvs3))is SO33(+F-SCH)/SO33 . If you select SO33(+F-SCH) you could change the F-SCH Data Rate .

  6. If you select SO33(+F-SCH) you could change the F-SCH Data Rate .
    • Press the Call Setup key.
    • Press the More key on the lower left side of the test set until 4 of 5 of the Call Control menu is displayed.
    • Press the Data Channel Information ( F2 ), then press the Data Channel Parameters ( F1 ) to set F-SCH Data Rate to 76.8kbps.
  7. Setup HTTP SMS State:

    • Press the Call Setup key.
    • Press the More key on the lower left side of the test set until 4 of 5 of the Call Control menu is displayed.
    • Press the Short Message Service ( F5 ), then go to SMS Control menu 2 of 2 .
  8. Setup the Mobile Station:

    • Press the Menu , then select the Message .
    • Select the Message Setting , then MMSC Domain according to your mobile station's configuration guide.
    • Key in the IP address of MMS server PC.

STEP D: Send MMS Message

  • For 1. Mobile-Terminated MMS Messages .

    • Open the web interface of NowSMS/MMS (for more information please refer to www.nowsms.com ).
    • Select an attached file such as .jpg file from the PC and send it to the mobile station.
    • View the MMS message received by the mobile station.
  • For 2. Mobile-Originated MMS Messages

    • Create an MMS message with the mobile station such as take a picture with it.
    • Send the MMS message according to the mobile station's guide to the PC.
    • Check the dedicated file under NowSMS in the PC to see the received MMS message.

  • For 3. End-to-End MMS Messages

    • Create an MMS message with the mobile station 1 such as take a picture with it.
    • Send the MMS message according to the mobile station 1's guide to the mobile station 2.
    • view the MMS message received by the mobile station 2.
