All of the FPC related information, such as parameter settings, displayed results, operations, etc., can be accessed from the Forward Power Control .

  • Support for new rear panel Digital Bus

To generate faded forward channel signals with AWGN, the test set must be equipped with a rear panel Digital Bus connecting to an external PC running Baseband Studio software. See Digital Bus Information for details.

  • Support for R-FCH gating mode

When the test set's R-FCH gating mode is enabled and the mobile station supports the gating mode, the mobile station will gate the R-FCH/R-Pilot channel when transmitting at 1/8th data rate. See R-FCH Gating for details.

  • Support for calling party number settings

With these settings, you can evaluate the mobile station's behavior in response to the specified calling party number (CPN) parameters (for example, to see whether the mobile station displays the calling party's number as expected). See Calling Party Number Parameters for details.

  • Support for F-FCH frame pattern setup

This feature provides the capability to specify the frame patterns to be sent on the forward traffic channel. A typical usage for specifying the frame pattern is for forward power control EIB test. See F-FCH Frame Pattern Setup ).

  • Enhancements to the data channel functionality

    • Support for packet data service Dormant state

The dormant state is an important advantage of the packet data service offering since it allows the mobile station's natural state to be dormancy, where the mobile station does not utilize any radio resources and has minimal power consumption. The subsequent sessions (when the mobile station comes out of dormancy) can be started without having to re-establish PPP link again and the connection time is faster. See Packet Data Connection Processing States for details.

    • A new setting, External PDSN Connect Timeout , is added to the Data Channel Parameters menu. See Data Channel Parameters for details.

Measurements

  • Changes to the Frame Error Rate Measurement
    • A new parameter, Minimum Frame Count , is added to the Frame Error Rate Setup menu. See FER Measurement Parameters for details.
    • The value of the FER Requirement setting is extended from the range of 0.1% to 15% to the range of 0.1% to 30%.
    • When the test set is configured to generate faded signals, which requires a rear panel digital bus connection to an external PC running Baseband Studio software, an external AWGN value is displayed on the FER measurement screen. See FER Measurement Results Specific to Lab Application for details.
    • When the FPC mode 000-Primary 800 is enabled on the test set (see FPC Mode ). another new parameter, Eb/Nt Limit , is added to the Frame Error Rate Setup menu (see FER Measurement Parameters ). Also, four new measurement results (Average Eb/Nt, Maximum Eb/Nt, Minimum Eb/Nt and Eb/Nt pass/fail) are available. See FER Measurement Results Specific to Lab Application for details.

B.01.16 Release - December 2003

This firmware revision includes all of the new features added in the E1962B B.07.15 release (see B.07.15 release - December 2003 ) and the following new features unique to the E6702B:

Base Station Emulation

  • Short Message Service (SMS) - The test set can simulate an SMS system which provides for the transmission of short messages to, or reception of short messages from an intended mobile station, and the return of acknowledgments and error messages. All of the SMS tests specified in the CDG Stage 2 standard are supported by the test set. See Short Message Service/ Multimedia Service for details.
  • Data Throughput Monitor - This feature provides you an intuitive graph view to analyze data transfer rates for IP data packets that are exchanged between a data enabled wireless device connected to the test set's front panel RF port and a server connected to the test set's rear panel LAN port. See Data Throughput Monitor for details.
  • Support of Mobile IP - The test set provides an interface to work together with an external Mobile IP Simulator (MOB-IP-SIM) purchased from the Software Concepts, Inc. The MOB-IP-SIM provides the mobile IP protocol stacks and the test set supports the mobile IP protocol tests as specified in the TIA/EIA-IS-835 standard. See Simple IP and Mobile IP for details.
  • Paging Channel Message Error Rate (MER) - This measurement is used to evaluate how well the mobile station demodulates the paging channel in an AWGN (no fading or multipath) environment. The test set supports measuring MER for slotted mode paging channel, as specified in the EIA/TIA-98E standard: 3.3.2 demodulation of slotted mode paging channel . See Paging Channel MER Description for details.

A.02.20 Release - February 2003

This firmware revision includes all of the new features added in the E1962B cdma2000 Mobile Test Application, B.06.20 release, except for the radioOne , calibration signal. The unique features of E6702A added in this release include:

Data Channel

The data channel provides support for Service Option 33, a high speed packet data service. With this feature, a data enabled wireless device connected to the test set's front panel RF port can exchange IP data packets with a server connected to the test set's rear panel LAN port. Depending on the selected service option and data rate, data can be carried on both the F-FCH (Forward Fundamental Channel) and the F-SCH (Forward Supplemental Channel).

Ping, a utility that provides a simple IP connection check, is also supported.

Graphical Access Probe Power Enhancements

With this firmware revision, the Graphical Access Probe Power measurement has the added capability to display a sequence of up to 60 access probes. Originally, 20 access probes could be displayed.

The time span can now be adjusted to display access probes measured within a specified time period beginning with the first access probe. The span length can be specified to any value from 5 to 120 seconds.

Two markers provide the added capability to display relative (delta) power levels between any two access probes.

A table below the Graphical Access Probe Power graph displays the absolute power level of each access probe, along with the delta power relative to each previous probe. The elapsed (delta) time period between the first access probe and each subsequent probe is also displayed. This table can be scrolled to display any portion of the access probe sequence.

Protocol Logging Features

The E6582A Wireless Protocol Advisor is now capable of logging the following:

  • Forward Supplemental Channel messages
  • Forward/Reverse IP messages
  • Forward/Reverse PPP messages
  • Forward/Reverse RLP messages

A.01.20 Release - July 2002

These are the original features of the E6702A. This firmware release includes all of the features of the E1962B cdma2000 Mobile Test Application, B.04 release and the following features unique to the E6702A.

Protocol Logging Features

With the E6582A Wireless Protocol Advisor running on an external PC connected to the test set protocol messages can be logged, filtered, decoded, and saved to file to provide detailed information regarding signaling between the test set and a cdma2000 device. Timestamping of messages and identification of specified signaling events allows analysis of the timing and nature of signaling events.

Graphical Access Probe Power

The graphical access probe power measurement consists of measuring a series of channel power measurements triggered by a rise in RF power detected on the test set's RF input. This measurement is performed with the test set's call limit mode feature turned on. By inhibiting the connection of a call, the cdma2000 device transmits its maximum number of access probes.

Each measurement is displayed in a bar graph with a maximum of 20 access probes displayed at one time.

FER Measurement Enhancements

The FER (Frame Error Rate) measurement includes three new measurement results provided to identify the types of errors counted by this measurement. The three types of errors now identified are:

  • Forward Erasures. The number of frames the cdma2000 device was not able to decode.
  • Mobile Errors. The number of frames that the cdma2000 device sent to the test set that the test set was able to decode but that contained errors.
  • Reverse Erasures. The number of frames that the cdma2000 device sent to the test set but the test set was not able to decode.

Soft/Softer Handoffs

Soft or Softer handoffs can now be performed because of the addition of another simulated cell (base station). The second cell provides pilot, fundamental, and OCNS channels with settable power levels on the pilot and fundamental channels and settable Walsh codes on the fundamental and OCNS channels. Pilot strength levels are displayed in dB and in units specified in test standards that express power in -0.5 dB increments relative to total cell power.

In addition, a timing delay feature has been introduced that delays the cell 2 timing relative to cell 1 by up to 16 PN chips (13.02 microseconds).

All parameters needed to control pilot detection thresholds are provided in the soft handoff parameters setup.

A softkey has also been added that sends the Pilot Measurement Request Order message to the mobile station, allowing the immediate retrieval of pilot strength and status information at any time during a call, regardless of whether a soft handoff is on or off. Timestamping of pilot strength requests and reports is displayed in a table along with current status information.
