Packet Data Connection Troubleshooting
Last updated: August 31, 2009
This section is only applicable to the lab application.
Possible Setup Issues
Packet data connection is a wireless device (such as a MS supporting packet data services) initiated procedure.
-
Before trying to establish a packet data connection, you must make sure that the following settings properly configured:
-
Cell band, channel and System ID must be set to the proper values for your wireless devices so that it can successfully camp on the test set (see
How Do I Set Up a Call?
).
-
Packet Data Service Options
must be set to SO33 or SO33 (+F-SCH).
-
LAN IP Address 2 (Data+) should be configured correctly if it is not grayed out in the
Instrument IP Setup
menu. This address must be set on the same subnet as the LAN IP Address and must not be identical to the LAN IP Address.
-
If the test set's internal PDSN (providing simple IP protocol) is used for packet data connection, you must properly set a
DUT IP Address
for your wireless device and make sure the
External PDSN State
is set to Off (see
Data Channel Parameters
). For an example packet data connection procedure using Simple IP protocol, refer to
Packet Data Service Example Procedure (via Simple IP)
.
-
If the external MOB-IP-SIM is used to supply the PDSN simulation (providing Mobile IP protocol),
-
If your data channel application does not seem to be working, try pinging the device. Also, The test set has a ping feature, and so do most computer operating systems. See
Ping
for more information.
-
Ping does not work: Verify that your device supports ping. The device must be in a packet data connection in order for ping to work. This may require that you initiate a data transfer from the mobile station. Also, Ping and Data Channel are only available in Active Cell operating mode with IS-2000 system type selected.
-
Ping log has an unknown IP address: If you log a Ping that originated from the test set, the Ping forward link Source Address and the reverse link Destination Address have a fixed value of 130.29.181.203. This is because the test set uses an internal address to originate IP data from the test set to the mobile station. See
Protocol Logging During Ping
for more information.
