Protocol Revisions
Last updated: December 17, 2004
The test set's base station emulator supports the protocol revisions listed in
Protocol Revisions
The protocol revision supported by the test set is selected from
Protocol Rev
(
F10
) on
Call Parms 1 of 4
menu and sent to the mobile station in the P_REV and MIN_P_REV fields of some overhead messages (see
Settable Fields in Overhead Messages
). The protocol revision used by the mobile station (MOB_P_REV) is sent to the test set via the
Registration Message
(during registration), or the P
age Response Message
(in response to a paging request from the test set), or the
Origination Message
(when initiating a call from the mobile station). It is displayed on the Mobile Station Information screen (see
Mobile Reported Information
) after a successful registration or connection.
The protocol revision supported by your mobile station (MOB_P_REV) should be no less than the protocol revisions configured on the test set (P_REV). Otherwise, the mobile station can not camp on the test set.
For IS-2000 system, the protocol revision 7 (IS-2000-A) functionality is available in a lab application (E6702B revision B.02 and above) but requires an additional feature license in a test application (E1962B revision B.08 and above). If the protocol revision 7 (IS-2000-A) is selected when the required feature license is not available in your test application, an error message is generated and the feature will not be activated. Key Enhancements for Protocol Revisions 7 (IS-2000-A) Relative to Protocol Revision 6 (IS-2000-0)
Operating Considerations for IS-2000 Protocol Revisions
-
If IS-2000 protocol revision is changed while a call is connected, the call is dropped with no signaling to the mobile station.
-
The change of protocol revision between 6 (IS-2000-0) and 7 (IS-2000-A) may affect the code level summation check (see
Other Settings That Affect Code Channel Levels and States
) and result in the change of the generated control channels (see
Control Channels Configuration
). The change of protocol revision may be rejected due to an invalid set and an error will be posted to indicate the issue.
-
The test set configured with protocol revision 7 (IS-2000-A) supports a subset of the new release A functionality as specified in the IS-2000 standards (C.S0002-A V6.0 to C.S0005-A V6.0).
-
The test set supports new control channels such as F-BCCH, F-CCCH, and R-EACH but does not support Reservation Access mode and the associated channels (R-CCCH, F-CPCCH, and F-CACH), the Power Controlled Access mode, and the Time Diversity and the associated channels (F-TDPCH and F-APICH).
-
The test set supports new F-BCCH overhead messages (see
IS-2000 Primary Broadcast Control Channel Overhead Messages (P_REV > = 7)
) required for the new release A (P_REV = 7) functionality. The F-CCCH supports the Mobile Station Directed Messages (such as General Page Message, Status Request Message, etc. that are carried on the Paging Channel for P_REV= 6) with some format changes as required for P_REV >= 7. In addition, the test set uses the existing message if a previous protocol revision (P_REV = 6) message is sufficient for the operation (for example, continue to use existing General Page message instead of new Universal Page message).
