Performing a Hard Handoff

The test set provides two alternative methods for performing hard handoffs, implicit and explicit.

An explicit handoff allows several handoff parameters to be changed without a handoff attempt. Before performing an explicit handoff, you must first specify the handoff parameters from the Handoff Setup menu (see Setting Hard Handoff Parameters ). A handoff attempt is performed only when the Execute Handoff key is pressed. See How Do I Perform a Hard Handoff? .

An implicit handoff is simply a side effect of changing a parameter and a handoff attempt is performed immediately. For example, when you enter a new channel number in the Channel field or select a new Cell Band , the setting is immediately applied and the MS is directed to the new band or channel.When in the IS-95 or IS-2000 system, changing the following parameters results in an implicit handoff:
