Maximum/Minimum Power Measurement Description
Last updated: October 28, 2004
How is a Maximum/Minimum Power Measurement Made?
The Maximum/Minimum Power measurement, which is actually a firmware routine programmed into the test set, provides an automated way of measuring both the maximum and minimum output power of a CDMA mobile station. It is implemented using a combination of the capabilities of the Average Power measurement (see
Digital Average Power Measurement Description
) and the Channel Power measurement (see
Channel Power Measurement Description
). The Average Power measurement is used to measure the maximum power of the mobile station, and the Channel Power measurement is used to measure the minimum controlled output power of the mobile station. Both open loop and closed loop power control drive the mobile station's power level up and down. Two power measurement results will be displayed when the measurement is complete.
Maximum/Minimum Power Measurement Parameters
Maximum Power Setup:
Minimum Power Setup:
The test set will temporarily use the parameters set from the Maximum Power Setup menu (
Maximum Power Setup:
) for the maximum power measurement, use the parameters set from the Minimum Power Setup menu (
Minimum Power Setup:
) for the minimum power measurement. When the measurement is finished, the test set returns to its pre-measurement settings (including Cell Power, F-FCH/Traffic Level, Pilot Level, Receiver Power Control, Reverse Power Control mode, and Call Drop Timer) which are set from the
Call Parms
menu (see
How Do I Change Call Parameters?
).
Maximum/Minimum Power Measurement Results
A typical measurement result is shown below:
Input Signal Requirements
The Maximum/Minimum power measurement meets specifications when the following input signal requirements are met:
-
The frequency of the signal being measured must be within the range of 412 MHz to 483 MHz, 800 MHz to 960 MHz, or 1.7 GHz to 2.0 GHz, and be within 100 kHz of the expected frequency.
-
The signal level into the test set's RF IN/OUT connector must be between -61 dBm to +37 dBm. The test set can autorange to a signal that is within +/- 9 dB of the expected input level (see
RFANalyzer:AUTO:POWer[:SELected]?
).
Key TIA/EIA-98-E Tests Performed Using the Maximum/Minimum Power Measurement
Calibrating the Maximum/Minimum Power Measurement
The maximum power measurement is automatically calibrated during a digital average power calibration. The minimum power measurement is automatically calibrated during a channel power calibration.
To properly calibrate the maximum/minimum power measurement, you need to perform the digital average power calibration first, then make the channel power calibration. Refer to
Calibrating the Test Set
for details of digital average power calibration and channel power calibration.
