Licensing Requirements

Fast switching is limited to formats that are individually licensed within test or lab applications. Besides the license you receive with your fast switching test application or your fast switching lab application, you must also have the individual license(s) for the test or lab applications you plan to fast switch between. See Licensing Requirements

FAQ's

When I load a fast switching application, what happens to the old test applications?

The old test applications remain in the test set's list of applications. However, the fast switching application will not use your previously installed test applications. The fast switching application is a self-contained test application which combines the latest revision of radio formats into one test application.

Note that if you want to revert back to your earlier revision of an individual test application, you have to perform an application switch.

When I power up my test set, which fast switching format will come up?

The radio format that a fast switching application powers up in depends on the licenses that are present on the test set. For example, if the test set running the E1985B GSM/GPRS_AMPS/136_WCDMA fast switching application is power cycled and all of the test applications are licensed, the fast switching application will boot up to the first available licensed test application format that is present according to the following order: GSM/GPRS, AMPS/136, W-CDMA.

The Connection Type will default to AUTO, ready to make GSM voice calls, when the E1985B powers up into the GSM/GPRS format and the E1968A is licensed for GSM functionality. If the E1968A is only licensed for GPRS functionality, the Connection Type setting will default to BLER, ready to perform GPRS data connections.

If you do not have a license for the E1968A GSM/GPRS TA but do have a licensed revision of the E1961A AMPS/136 TA, the test set selects the AMPS/136 format as the active format. See Licensing Requirements for information on licenses required.

Do I need to upgrade every test or lab application on my test set after I have installed a fast switching application?

Once you install a fast switching application, there is no need to upgrade the individual test applications. You only need to upgrade the fast switching application as this contains the latest revisions of the individual test or lab applications that you have licensed.

Where is the User's Guide for my fast switching application?

Refer to the individual application Online User's Guide's when you need operating details about a particular format.

What happens to my settings when I fast switch to another format?

Switching formats affects the test set in the same way that a partial preset does.

Full and partial presets affect all formats in the GSM/GPRS_AMPS/136_W-CDMA Mobile Test Application whether or not the format is active.
