Training Sequence Code (TSC)
Last updated: December 2, 2008
A (PD)TCH can have one of eight midamble patterns. These patterns are called Training Sequence Codes (TSCs). The test set's BCC and Expected Burst parameters must be set to the TSC used by the mobile station in order for the test set to synchronize with the mobile station.
-
Expected Burst
This parameter only applies when the Operating Mode is set to one of the
Test Mode Operating Modes
. The Expected Burst parameter allows you to configure the test set to decode a certain uplink midamble pattern (TSC0 through TSC7). Alternatively, selecting RACH for this parameter allows you to set the test set to expect the special midamble pattern used by a RACH burst. The Expected Burst TSC can be set with the
CALL:BURSt:TYPE[:SELected]
command. If the Expected Burst TSC is not set, the test set may not synchronize to the mobile station's input signal.
-
BCC (Base Station Colour Code)
The BCC (Base Station Color Code) parameter allows you to configure the test set to generate a certain downlink TSC (0 through 7). The command to set this parameter is
CALL[:CELL]:BCCode
.
When the Operating Mode is set to one of the
Test Mode Operating Modes
or
Active Cell Operating Mode
, both the BCC (Base Station Color Code) and the Expected Burst must be set to the same TSC value on the test set that your mobile station uses. This ensures synchronization between the test set and the mobile station.
The test set will only synchronize to the mobile station when the
Operating Mode
is set to
Active Cell
(GSM, GPRS or EGPRS) if the Expected Burst matches the
BCC (Base Station Colour Code)
.
See
How Do I Set the Training Sequence Code (TSC)?
for a detailed procedure on how to manually configure the uplink and downlink TSCs.
How Do I Set the Training Sequence Code (TSC)?
This section details how to set the Training Sequence Code (TSC). When the test set's operating mode is a test mode, you must set both the downlink and uplink TSC. The uplink TSC is set by following the
Expected Burst Procedure
, and the downlink TSC is set by following the
BCC (Base Station Colour Code) Procedure
parameter.
When the test set's operating mode is
Active Cell
, the test set utilizes the value that the
BCC (Base Station Colour Code)
parameter is set to for both the uplink and downlink TSC. That is, the mobile station transmits the uplink TSC to match the BCC setting.
BCC (Base Station Colour Code) Procedure
This procedure details how to set the BCC (Base Station Colour Code) parameter. (This parameter is the same as the downlink TSC and the downlink midamble.)
-
Press the
CALL SETUP
screen key.
-
Press
Operating Mode
(
F1
), and use the knob to highlight and select
Cell Off.
-
Press
Cell Info
(
F6
).
-
Press
Cell Identification
(
F3
). Use the knob to highlight and select BCC (Base Station Colour Code). The value that you set the BCC parameter to is the downlink Training Sequence Code (TSC).
-
Press
Close Menu
(
F6
).
-
Press
Return
(
F6
) to go back to the
Call Setup Screen
.
-
Press
Operating Mode
(
F1
), and use the knob to highlight and select an Active Cell Operating Mode or Test Mode Operating Mode.
The test set will only synchronize to the mobile station when the
Operating Mode
is set to
Active Cell
(GSM, GPRS or EGPRS) if the Expected Burst matches the
BCC (Base Station Colour Code)
.
Also, the default value for the BCC is 5. This setting for the BCC (or downlink TSC) must match the downlink TSC used by your mobile station.
Expected Burst Procedure
This procedure is only applicable when the test set is in one of the
Test Mode Operating Modes
.
This procedure details how to set the Expected Burst parameter. The setting for this parameter is the setting for the uplink TSC. When the test set is in one of the test mode operating modes or active cell operating mode, the downlink TSC (see
BCC (Base Station Colour Code) Procedure
) must match the uplink TSC.
-
Press the
CALL SETUP
screen key.
-
Press
Operating Mode
(
F1
), and use the knob to highlight and select one of the
Test Mode Operating Modes
(depending on your requirements)
.
-
Press Receiver Control (
F12
). Use the knob to highlight and change the Expected Burst. The value that you set the Expected Burst parameter to is the uplink Training Sequence Code (TSC).
-
Press
Close Menu
(
F6
).
