Configure Specific Features that Dual Transfer Mode Adds/Changes

The test set's display is slightly altered while the Dual Transfer Mode feature is enabled. The following procedures assumes that DTM is enabled and the Operating Mode is set to Active Cell (serving cell GPRS or EGPRS).

Choose the Connection Type

Dual Transfer Mode allows a circuit switched voice connection to be established in any connection type, thus the connection type only effects the data connection.

  1. Press CALL SETUP.
  2. Press Data Conn Type ( F2 ) and choose the type of data connection.

Establish a Mobile Terminated Data Connection

  1. Press CALL SETUP.
  2. Press Data Conn Type ( F2 ) on screen 1 of 2 of the Control menu.
  3. Press Start Data Connection ( F4 ).

Configure the Paging IMSI

  1. Press CALL SETUP .
  2. Press Paging IMSI (F5) on screen 1 of 3 of the Control menu.

Configure and Execute a Handover

The Handover Parameters are accessed from the Call Parms menu.

  1. Press CALL SETUP .
  2. Press Handover Parameters ( F10 ).
  3. Press GSM Handover Setup ( F7 ) or EGPRS Handover Setup ( F8 ).
  4. Set the parameters in the Handover Setup menu.
  5. Press Handover Execute (F5).

Establish a Dual Transfer Mode Connection

This procedure details how to establish an active DTM connection. This procedure assumes that the BCH parameter for band is set up correctly for your mobile station and that the appropriate RF IN/OUT Amplitude Offsets have been set to offset loss between the mobile station and the test set.

  1. Enable/Disable Dual Transfer Mode
  2. Configure the DTM parameters (including the Operating Mode and Data Conn Type ). See Configurable Parameters .
  3. Establish a Call
  4. Establish a packet switched data connection. See How Do I Start a Data Connection? for instructions on how to start a mobile terminated data connection.

Analyze the Dual Transfer Mode Properties

This section assumes that Dual Transfer Mode is enabled.

Supported DTM Class

  1. Press Call Setup .
  2. Observe the DUT Class Information section of the Call Setup screen. The DTM Class GPRS and the DTM Class EGPRS reports indicate which class the DUT supports. Note: The +HR string appears to the right of the class information if the DUT supports Half Rate Dual Transfer Mode Operation. Conversely the +HR string will not be displayed if the DUT does not support Half Rate Dual Transfer Mode operation.

Connection Status while in Dual Transfer Mode

  1. You can observe the connection status in the bottom center portion of the screen. The connection status is displayed in the following form: circuit switched voice connection `/' packet switched data connection.

If no valid circuit switched voice connection is established, the connection status only displays the packet switched data connection status, as if Dual Transfer Mode were not enabled.

The mobile station must support Class A operation in order to establish a DTM connection. If the mobile station does not support Class A operation, GPRS Suspended connection status is displayed. The Suspended packet switched data connection status indicates that the packet switched connection has been suspended in order to transfer data on the circuit switched connection rather than to establish a DTM connection.
