Packet Paging

Packet Paging

Last updated: December 3, 2008

The network initiates a packet transfer to an MS that is in the Standby state by sending one or more packet paging request messages on the downlink PPCH or PCH. The MS then responds to one packet paging request message by initiating a mobile originated packet transfer. This mobile originated packet transfer allows the MS to send a packet paging response to the network. The packet paging response is one or more RLC/MAC data blocks containing an arbitrary LLC frame. After the packet paging response is sent by the MS and received by the network, the mobility management state of the MS is Ready.

Initiate a Packet Paging Procedure

To initiate a packet paging in the test set, be sure the following requirements are met:

When the GMM Ready Timer expires, any incoming data that is intend for the mobile device will result in a Packet Paging message being sent to determine the mobile's location. The paging request message will be transmitted on the appropriate paging subchannel on the PCH or PPCH.

When the test set starts a Packet Paging, it starts timer T3313. It will stop timer T3313 when a response is received from the MS. When the timer T3313 expires the network may re-initiate Packet Paging. See Configurable Timers for information about T3314
