Intra Cell Handover

Last updated: May 19, 2009

This section is only applicable to the lab applications.

The Intra Cell Handover functionality gives the user the ability to perform CS handovers procedures in the same Cell. You can choose to use the existing (and default) channel reassignment mechanism (TCH Assignment for CS) or the new Intra Cell Handover mechanism when changing the channel characteristics of a connection e.g. ARFCN, timeslot, coding scheme.

The handover type that can be implemented using the intra cell architecture include:

  • Non-synchronized handover
  • Synchronized handover
  • Pre-synchronized handover
  • Pseudo-synchronized handover
These handovers all make use of the HANDOVER_COMMAND but they provide different Information Elements within it. The Synchronization Indication may be omitted or included to inform the mobile of the type of handover. If the type of handover is pre-synchronized a Timing Advance IE is included. If the handovertype is pseudo-synchronized the Time Difference (Report Observed Time Difference) IE is included.

If the DUT fail to establish a post handover connection, the failure recovery mechanism will not return to the original channel configuration.

The GPIB command to configure the reassignment method used on the TCH is CALL:TCHannel:SIGNaling:REAssignment:TYPE

Manual Operation

The following procedure details how to set the Intra Cell Handover parameter.

  1. Press the CALL SETUP screen key.
  2. Press TCH Parameters ( F8 ).
  3. Press the More key until screen 3 of 3 of the TCH Parameters menu is displayed.
  4. Press Call Signaling Parameters ( F7 ) and the Call Signaling Parameters menu appears in the center of the screen.
  5. Use the knob to highlight and set Intra Cell TCH Reassignment Method.
