Fast Device Tune Capable Measurement

The measurements made on the Uplink Test Sequence (UTS) by the test set in Fast Device Tune operating mode are called Fast Device Tune capable measurements. The Transmit Power Measurement is currently the only Fast Device Tune capable Measurement.

How is a TXP measurement made in Fast Device Tune operating mode?

In the Fast Device Tune operating mode, you can configure the mobile station to send up to 7 uplink bursts in one TDMA frame. The TXP measurement is able to simultaneously measure the 7 uplink bursts with a single capture on a TDMA frame.

The actual uplink bursts sent by the mobile station in one TDMA frame is specified using GFDTune:UPLink:TSEQuence:BURSt:COUNt . See Fast Device Tune .

Operating Considerations

In Fast Device Tune operating mode, you should not change any measurement related settings when the Fast Device Tune capable measurement is running.

The first burst in the TDMA frame should have the highest power level and should be higher than -14dBm.

In Fast Device Tune operating mode, the TXP measurement can not be concurrent with any other measurements.

TXP Measurement Parameters in Fast Device Tune operating mode

All the previous Transmit Power measurement parameters are available in Fast Device Tune operating mode. Additionally three new parameters: Arm State, Fast Device Tune Result Set and Uplink Frames per Step are newly added in order to fulfill the requirement in Fast Device Tune operating mode.

  • Arm State

    This parameter is only applicable in Fast Device Tune operating mode. The parameter indicates whether the hardware of the test set has been armed to accept input RF signal.

    The GPIB command to query this parameter is INITiate:TXPower:GFDTune:ARMed? .

  • Auto Range to Highest Burst

    See Auto Range to Highest Burst in Transmit Power Measurement Description .

    Note, in Fast Device Tune operating mode, the highest input burst is the first input burst. You only need to set the expected power for the first burst. see Expected Power Control for information on how to set the expected power.

  • Expected Power Control

    To make accurate measurements, the test set needs to know how much power to expect at the test set's RF IN/OUT port, which is referred to as the expected power. In Fast Device Tune operating mode, the Expected Power Control must be set to Manual . You can specify the expected power for up to 7 uplink bursts; each burst is set individually.

    To set the test set receiver's expected power setting to manual use RFANalyzer:CONTrol:POWer:AUTO .

    To set the power level that the test set's receiver is expecting the mobile station uplink burst to transmit at, use RFANalyzer:MANual:POWer:BURSt<[1]|2|3|4|5|6|7> .

  • Fast Device Tune Trigger Threshold

    This parameter is only applicable in Fast Device Tune operating mode. This parameter defines the threshold for the first RF trigger. The threshold is an offset value below the highest expected power.

    The GPIB command to set this parameter is SETup:TXPower:GFDTune:THReshold . The parameter can only be set using GPIB command.

  • Fast Device Tune Result Set

    This parameter is only applicable in Fast Device Tune operating mode. This parameter defines the results of which uplink sequence step are returned with any FETCh command that is not assigned an step parameter. This parameter is only applicable when the operating mode is set to GFDTune.

    The GPIB command to set this parameter is SETup:TXPower:GFDTune:RSET . The parameter can be set using GPIB command only.

  • Measurement Burst

    In Fast Device Tune operating mode, This parameter indicates the measurement results of which burst is returned if the optional parameter in an FETCh command is omitted.

    The GPIB command to set this parameter is CALL:(PDTCH|PDTChannel):MSLot:MEASurement:BURSt .

  • Measurement Timeout

    Ensure that you set the Measurement Timeout to a value great enough to either allow the test set to output the entire UTS, or to a value great enough to both allow you to command the mobile station to transmit the UTS and allow the mobile station enough time to completely transmit the UTS.   • Measurement Frequency

    In Fast Device Tune operating mode, you must specify the Measurement Frequency manually. You can specify the Measurement Frequency for the whole uplink test sequence using GFDTune:UPLink:TSEQuence:FREQuency , or specify the Measurement Frequency for a specified uplink test step, using GFDTune:UPLink:SSTep:FREQuency

  • Multi-Measurement Count

    In Fast Device Tune operating mode, Multi-Measurement count specifies how many loops are measured on every sequence step before the measurement moves to the next sequence step. See Multi-measurement Count in Transmit Power Measurement Description for more information.

    To set Multi-Measurement state and count separately, use SETup:TXPower:COUNt:STATe to set the Multi-Measurement state, SETup:TXPower:COUNt:NUMBer to set the Multi-Measurement count; use SETup:TXPower:COUNt[:SNUMber] to set the state and count simultaneously.

  • Trigger Arm

    In Fast Device Tune operating mode, the trigger arm is set to Single and can not be changed, Continuous trigger arm is not supported. see Trigger Arm (Single or Continuous) Description for more information.

    The GPIB command to set this parameter is SETup:TXPower:CONTinuous .

  • Trigger Delay

    See Trigger Delay in Transmit Power Measurement Description .

  • Trigger Qualification

    In Fast Device Tune operating mode, the trigger qualification is set to OFF and can not be changed.

  • Trigger Source

    In Fast Device Tune operating mode, the trigger source is set to protocol and can not be changed, a fixed triggering arrangement is used, RF Rise trigger is used to capture the first Uplink Sequence Step from the mobile station and GSM frame timing is used for the subsequent Uplink Sequence Steps. Trigger Source retrieve its original setting when leaving Fast Device Tune operating mode.

    The GPIB command to set this parameter is SETup:TXPower:TRIGger:SOURce .

  • Uplink Frames per Step

    This parameter is only applicable in Fast Device Tune operating mode, The parameter indicates how many TDMA frames will be transmitted by the mobile station for a Uplink Sequence Step.

    The GPIB command to query this parameter is SETup:TXPower:SSTep:FRAMes? . The query result is determined by the test set according to actual configuration. The mobile station then generates the number of TDMA frames according to the query result to complete the measurement for one step and move to the next sequence step.

TXP Measurement Results in Fast Device Tune operating mode

In Fast Device Tune operating mode, The results returned by the TXP measurement are Burst Power and Integrity Indicator, Additionally, average, maximum, minimum and standard deviation of Burst Power are returned when the Multi-Measurement state is On .

Note that in the Fast Device Tune operating mode, the Estimated Carrier Power measurement is not supported, the Estimated Carrier Power is the same as Burst Power in the measurement result returned.

You can query the measurement result in Fast Device Tune operating mode by the following ways:

  • Power results for all steps of a single burst using FETCh:TXPower:TSEQuence commands:

    The query returns measurement results of a specified burst for all uplink sequence steps in the following order: <Result for Step 1>, <Result for Step 2>,..., <Result for Step 50>. The commands contain an optional parameter that defines which burst in the TDMA frame is queried. If the optional parameter is omitted, then the results of the burst specified by Measurement Burst are returned.

  • Power results for all bursts of a single Uplink Sequence Step (USS) using FETCh:TXPower:SSTep:BPOWer:FRAMe or FETCh:TXPower:SSTep:CPOWer:FRAMe commands:

    The query returns measurement results of all bursts for a specified uplink sequence step. The commands contain a mandatory parameter that defines which step is queried. The commands return the measurement results in the following order: <Result for Burst 1>, <Result for Burst 2>, <Result for Burst 3>, <Result for Burst 4>, <Result for Burst 5>, <Result for Burst 6>, <Result for Burst 7>, <Result for Burst 8>. only the results for the burst within the uplink burst numbers are valid. The Result of Burst 8 is always invalid.

       
    NOTE
    In Fast Device Tune operating mode, if the GPIB commands other than FETCh:TXPower:TSEQuence and FETCh:TXP:SSTep are used to query the measurement results, then only the results for the uplink sequence step specified by Fast Device Tune Result Set are returned for each query. See TXP Measurement Results in Transmit Power Measurement Description for more information.

       

  • Power results for one burst of a single USS using other FETCh:TXPower:SSTep commands:

    The query returns measurement results of one burst for a specified uplink sequence step. The commands contain a mandatory parameter that defines which step is queried and a optional parameter that defines which burst in the TDMA frame is queried. If the optional parameter is omitted, then the results of the burst specified by Measurement Burst are returned.

TXP Measurement Input Signal Requirements in Fast Device Tune operating mode

The TXP measurement requires the following signal attributes:

  • Level of the first input burst is between -14dBm and +37dBm, level of the other bursts are between -25dBm and +37dBm.
  • When the Auto Range to Highest Burst parameter is set to Off :
    • The level of the highest input burst (or the first burst) is within +/-3 dB of the Highest Expected Power.
    • The level of all the other input bursts are within +3dB/-30dB of the Highest Expected Power.
  • when the Auto Range to Highest Burst parameter is set to On :
    • The level of the highest input burst (or the first burst) is within +3dB/-30dB dB of the Highest Expected Power.
    • The level of the all other input bursts are within +3dB/-30dB of the Highest Expected Power.
