Problems using ETSI Type A Connection Type
If you are seeing your EGPRS connections "timeout" when using the ETSI Type A connection type, you may need to change the EGPRS Demodulation Type to Normal. See
EGPRS Demodulation Type
.
When the EGPRS Demodulation Type is Reduced, the test set only demodulates the uplink periodically. The mobile station sends a Countdown Value (CV) on the uplink which indicates how many more blocks the mobile station is sending on the existing TBF. As specified in GSM 04.60 Sec. 9.3.1 "Countdown procedure", once the number of untransmitted blocks is less than 15, the mobile station should begin to send the specific number of blocks left. When the CV is a value other than 15, the test set recognizes that the mobile station is about to release the TBF. At this point the test set uses only normal demodulation and restarts the TBF when it is released. If the test set does not receive a value other than 15 for the CV on the uplink, it returns to using reduced demodulation and the TBF is not restarted after the mobile station releases it, resulting in the connection timing out.
