HSDPA Uplink Parameters

This section is only applicable to the lab application or feature-licensed test application.

All of these parameters can only be changed when the connection status is idle. To change the value of these parameters while on an HSDPA RB test mode connection, you must perform a Transport Channel Reconfiguration .

  • HS-DPCCH Gain Settings

    You can specify the change in power of the uplink signal when an ACK, NACK or CQI occurs using the DeltaACK , DeltaNACK and DeltaCQI settings, respectively. 3GPP TS 25.213 s4.2.1.2 Table 1A provides mappings of the signalled values for Delta ACK , Delta NACK and Delta CQI to the resulting quantized amplitude ratio A hs = Beta hs /Beta c . For example, a signalled value of Delta ACK = 8 corresponds to an A hs value of 30/15. A signalled value of Delta CQI = 7 corresponds to an A hs value of 24/15.

    The total change in uplink power (DPCH + HS-DPCCH) when an ACK, NACK or CQI occurs can be determined by:

    Power Change Due to HS-DPCCH = 10log 10 (Beta d ^2 + Beta c ^2 + Beta hs ^2) - 10log 10 (Beta d ^2 + Beta c ^2)

    Where Beta hs is dependent upon the DeltaACK, DeltaNACK or DeltaCQI setting (depending upon whether an ACK, NACK or CQI was transmitted, respectively).

    The following table shows the total change in uplink power for each of the four sub-tests defined in 3GPP 34.121 v7.2.0 Table C.10.1.4.

    * Note 4 of 34.121 Table C.10.1.4 indicates: "For sub-test 2 the Bc/Bd ratio of 12/15 for the TFC during the measurement period (TF1, TF0) is achieved by setting the signalled gain factors for the reference TFC (TF1, TF1) to Bc = 11/15 and Bd = 15/15."
    The test set does not signal gain factors using reference TFCs. Rather the test set always uses the test set's values for Bc and Bd to explicitly set betac and betad for every TFC (except TFC (TF0, TF0) which always has Bc=15 and Bd=0). Thus, setting Manual Uplink DPCH Bc to 12/15 properly configures the test set for sub-test 2.

    • DeltaACK

      This parameter controls the Delta ACK power control value signalled to the UE (see 3GPP TS 25.214 s5.1.2.5A and 25.213 s4.2.1.2).

    • DeltaNACK

      This parameter controls the Delta NACK power control value signalled to the UE (see 3GPP TS 25.214 s5.1.2.5A and 25.213 s4.2.1.2).

    • DeltaCQI

      This parameter controls the Delta CQI power control value signalled to the UE (see 3GPP TS 25.214 s5.1.2.5A and 25.213 s4.2.1.2).

  • Ack-Nack Repetition Factor

    This parameter sets the Ack-Nack repetition factor (N_acknack_transmit) value signalled to the UE, which controls how often the UE repeats each ACK or NACK (see 3GPP TS 25.214 s6A.1.1).

    The test set only analyzes the ACK/NACK information sent by the UE for subframes that the test set directed data to the UE. If Ack-Nack Repetition Factor is set to >1, the UE repeats ACK/NACK information during subframes not directed to it by the test set, but the test set does not analyze this repeated ACK/NACK information.

    3GPP TS 25.214 s6A.1.1 specifies that the UE will not decode blocks from the HS-PDSCHs during subframes that correspond to HS-DPCCH subframes in which it is repeating ACK/NACK information. Thus, to prevent incorrect HSDPA BLER results, you must ensure that the minimum inter-TTI of the active HSDPA channel is greater than or equal to Ack-Nack Repetition Factor * 2 ms (so that there are sufficient unused subframes on the uplink for the ACK/NACK repeats to be transmitted without colliding with new ACK/NACK information). Otherwise, the repeated ACK/NACK information will be sent by the UE when the test set expects ACK/NACK information for the block it just transmitted to the UE (a block that the UE ignored because it was sending an ACK or NACK repeat for a prior block). The test set would then treat the ACK/NACK repeat like ACK/NACK information for the current block, resulting in incorrect HSDPA BLER results.

  • CQI Transmission Settings

    The CQI Feedback Cycle (k) and CQI Repetition Factor settings determine how often new and repeated CQI information is transmitted on the uplink. The test set checks for a CQI transmission in every subframe and uses every CQI transmission in the calculation of Median CQI , regardless of the CQI Feedback Cycle (k) and CQI Repetition Factor settings. In other words, every CQI transmission by the UE is treated as a separate CQI report; repeated CQI information is not ignored or evaluated differently. As long as CQI Feedback Cycle (k) is greater than or equal to CQI Repetition Factor * 2ms (there are no collisions between new and repeated CQI information), the CQI repetitions do not affect the Median CQI result. If you try to set either parameter such that CQI Feedback Cycle (k) is less than CQI Repetition Factor * 2ms (except for the case when CQI Feedback Cycle (k) equals 0 ms), the test set ignores the request and posts an error.

    • CQI Feedback Cycle (k)

      This parameter sets the CQI feedback cycle (k) value signalled to the UE, which controls how often the UE transmits new CQI information on the uplink (see 3GPP TS 25.214 s6A.1.2). A value of zero means that the UE shall not transmit any CQI information.

      When CQI Feedback Cycle (k) is not zero, it must be greater than or equal to CQI Repetition Factor * 2ms.

    • CQI Repetition Factor

      This parameter sets the CQI repetition factor (N_cqi_transmit) signalled to the UE, which controls how often the UE repeats CQI information on the uplink (see 3GPP TS 25.214 s6A.1.2).

      When CQI Feedback Cycle (k) is not zero, it must be greater than or equal to CQI Repetition Factor * 2ms.
