Trigger Output Setup

Last updated: January 15, 2009

The test set provides a 5 V, 16.5 us pulse at the TRIG OUT rear panel connector for triggering other test equipment from the test set.

This pulse is generated according to the Trigger Output Setup setting:

  • System Frame Clock

When Trigger Output Setup is set to System Frame Clock , a pulse is generated every 10 ms, in alignment with the first symbol period of each frame.

  • Measurement Generated

When Trigger Output Setup is set to Measurement Generated , pulses are generated when certain measurements are initiated or are running, or for other special situations, as outlined below:

    • Out-of-Synch Handling of Output Power measurement:

When Out-of-Synch Handling of Output Power is initiated, the test set generates a trigger pulse at point "A" (see Out-of-Synch Handling of Output Power Measurement Description for more details).

Note, when Trigger Output Setup is set to Measurement Generated and HSDPA is not active, the signal present at the TRIG OUT connector is undefined when any measurements other than Out-of-Synch Handling of Output Power is triggered or running.

    • HSDPA ( lab application or feature-licensed test application only ):

When HSDPA is active, a trigger pulse is generated every time the test set sends data using the HARQ0 process.

When on an HSDPA or HSPA RB Test Mode connection with RB Test HS-DSCH Configuration Type set to FRC , downlink HARQ0 subframes occur every 12 ms. Thus, the downlink HARQ0 rear panel trigger occurs every 12 ms. However, with HS-DSCH Configuration Type set to User Defined , or while on an HSDPA or HSPA packet data connection, downlink HARQ0 subframes do not necessarily occur every 12 ms (for example, if you are not continuously sending data on a packet data connection, the HARQ0 process is not invoked every 12 ms).

For a definition of when HSDPA is active for active cell operating mode and FDD test operating mode, see HSDPA Activation in Active Cell and HSDPA Activation in FDD Test , respectively.

Note, the rear panel trigger is NOT affected by the HS-DPCCH Trigger Subframe Alignment settings present in many measurements (which allow you to move the measurement trigger relative to the downlink HARQ0 subframe). When present, the rear panel trigger is always aligned to the start of the downlink HARQ0 subframes.

To access Trigger Output Setup from the front panel, press the CALL SETUP key, press the More key until you reach the Call Control 2 of 5 menu, and then select Trig Output Setup ( F6 ).
