Uplink Channel (UARFCN)

Last updated: February 3, 2009

Uplink Channel

The Uplink Channel setting specifies the uplink UTRA Absolute RF Channel Number (UARFCN). This automatically sets the test set's receivers to the expected UE transmit frequency.

The relationship between UARFCN and uplink frequency is described in 3GPP TS 25.101 section 5.

You can specify the uplink UARFCN in one of two ways:

  • Uplink Channel

Directly set the Uplink Channel setting to a specific uplink UARFCN value.

    GPIB commands: CALL:UPLink:CHANnel[:MCHannel]

  • Automatically Determined by DL Channel Setting

When Uplink Channel is set to Auto , the uplink UARFCN is automatically determined by the DL Channel setting (the test set subtracts the frequency separation associated with the DL Channel 's band from the DL Channel setting).

    GPIB command: CALL:UPLink:CHANnel:CONTrol:AUTO

To query the current uplink channel number via GPIB command, see CALL:STATus:UPLink:CHANnel? . Current Info, UL: Channel and Frequency is also displayed on the Channel (UARFCN) Information screen.

When in FDD Test operating mode, the expected uplink frequency can also be set by manually entering the Uplink Frequency (see Receiver Control ).

Operating Considerations

  • These settings cannot be changed while in active cell operating mode. Attempting to change these settings while in this mode results in an error and the test set rejects the change. Use the Cell Off operating mode when changing these settings. See CALL:OPERating to select operating modes.
  • To hand over to a new uplink channel while on a connection, you must perform a Physical Channel Reconfiguration , Transport Channel Reconfiguration or Radio Bearer Reconfiguration . After successful completion of a handover to a new UL UARFCN, the Uplink Channel setting is overwritten with the value of the handover uplink channel .
  • If the Uplink Channel setting results in an UL/DL offset of less than 30 MHz when compared with the DL Channel setting, the warning message "Performance not specified for UL/DL frequency offset <30 MHz" is issued.
