Inner Loop Power Troubleshooting

Last updated: January 16, 2009

Possible Setup Issues

  • This measurement is not supported on HSDPA or HSPA connections.
  • No other measurements can be running when an inner loop power measurement is performed. If any measurements are running when an inner loop power measurement is initiated, they are closed and a message is displayed to indicate that they were closed.
  • To use this measurement in Active Cell mode, the UE (mobile station) needs to be up on a call. To use the measurement in FDD Test Mode, UE should be capable of deriving TPC commands in FDD test mode. You needs to configure the UE to use the proper power control algorithm and the step size before initiating a measurement.
  • The Inner Loop Power measurement attempts to reconfigure the UE to the desired algorithm mode and power step size (if it is required) before running the measurement. If the UE does not receive or acknowledge this request, the test set issues an error "No physical channel reconfig complete received".
  • For test segments E-H, if Maximum Power Threshold for Test Control and Minimum Power Threshold for Test Control are set to Manual , ensure that Maximum Power Threshold for Test Manual is greater than Minimum Power Threshold for Test Manual . Otherwise, the measurement will return a result of "fail", as you've specified that none of the measured timeslots be considered for pass/fail.
  • The test set does not support testing the UE in compressed mode with this measurement, therefore 3 dB power control step size is not allowed.
  • Trigger Delay should only be set to a non-zero value if your UE's output power response to TPC commands is delayed (i.e. if your UE is not operating properly). If your UE is behaving correctly in the timing of power changes in response to TPC commands, non-zero values of the Trigger Delay setting can cause unspecified results.
  • Absolute measurement results are affected by any amplitude offsets that are entered (relative measurement results are not). See Amplitude Offset .
  • This measurement does not provide valid results while on a faded channel (see Digital Bus Information ).

Interpreting Integrity Indicator Values

If Over Range (5) is returned, the measured signal exceeds the expected input level or exceeds the maximum allowed input power for the test set.

If Under Range (6) is returned, the measured signal is below the expected input level.

If Uncalibrated Due to Temperature (19) is returned, the temperature in the test set has changed by ± 10° C or more since the last calibration and should be calibrated again. Calibrating the Test Set .

Unable to Cal; Power unstable (24) is returned if, during test segments E-H, the UE does not properly respond to power control during the re-range periods.

See Integrity Indicator .
