  • Dual Cell HSDPA.

Dual carrier HSDPA, also referred to as dual cell HSDPA or DC-HSDPA in the test standard, is introduced in 3GPP Release 8 to allow the network to transmit HSDPA data from two cells simultaneously. The peak rate is doubled from 21Mbps to 42Mbps without the use of MIMO. See Dual Cell HSDPA Concepts and How Does the Test Set Supports DC-HSDPA . Please be noted that specific hardware is required to enable this feature.

  • Fast Domancy.

Fast Dormancy is a special signaling function added to WCDMA and HSPA technologies in Release 8 of the 3GPP standards. It is defined to improve UE battery life while also minimizing network signaling. Fast Dormancy builds upon the existing defined RRC state transitions by more clearly defining the frequency of these transitions and the signaling procedures for requesting and granting certain transitions. See SCRI with Fast Dormancy .

  • E-UTRAN Inter-RAT measurement report.

When compressed mode is activated, you can choose to have E-UTRA measurements activated in the UE. See Compressed Mode and E-UTRA Measurement Results .

Call Processing

  • The RRC Pipe functions have been enhanced to provide timestamp information. This is useful for making Time To First Fix calculations where only the time between the UE fully receiving the MCM message and starting to transmit the MCM Response is considered. See CALL:PPRocedure .
  • Support for Robust Header Compression (ROHC) protocol as defined in RFC3095. The purpose of ROHC protocol is to provide a means to compress the protocol headers (for different IP/UDP/RTP combinations) in order to support services such as VoIP. See CALL:SERVice , CALL:COUNt , and CALL:STATus
  • Added partial support for Continuous Packet Connectivity: UL DTX, DL DRX and new uplink DPCCH slot formats are implemented for PS data call and RB Test Mode in Active Cell Mode and FDD Test Mode. see the following topics:
  • Support for the 64QAM PS Data Modulation Type. See CALL:HSDPa .
  • Additional PS data state transition settings. including Inactivity Timer configuration. See CALL:SERVice
  • Added FACH Measurement Occasion information settings. See CALL:BCCHannel .
  • Addition of UTRA FDD UE Transmitted Power Report and other UE reported values. See CALL:MS:REPorted .
  • Added settable SsearchRAT parameters. See CALL:RESelection .
  • Added RB Test Mode Uplink E-DCH RLC PDU Size parameter (see CALL:HSUPa:SERVice:RBTest:RLCPdu:SIZE ).
  • Added UL DPCCH Slot Format Setting (see CALL:UPLink:DPCChannel:SLOT:FORMat ).
  • Support for Supplementary Services (SS) Pipe. The SS Pipe along with the RRC Pipe, allows you to implement a Location Service (LCS) system. See CALL:SSERvice .
  • Added UEA1/UIA1 encryption (see CALL:SECurity:OPERation ).

Measurements

  • The E6703F now includes a QPSK EVM measurement. This measurement can be used to determine the error between the transmitted signal of a UE and the desired ideal signal, like the Waveform Quality measurement. The difference is that the QPSK EVM measurement expects a QPSK modulated input signal, which is similar to the WCDMA uplink signal with only one code channel. The data carried by the QPSK symbols sequence can be any pattern. There are several results reported with this measurement. These include the following:

    • Error Vector Magnitude (EVM)
    • Peak EVM - the maximum symbol EVM which is the calculated EVM at each QPSK symbol in the measurement interval
    • Phase Error
    • Origin Offset
    • Frequency Error

    See SETup:EVMQpsk , INITiate , READ , and FETCh:EVMQpsk .

Call Processing

  • The E6703F includes HSPA+ 64QAM DL test modes with signaling, HSPA+ MAC_ehs and Layer 2 enhancements. Layer 2 enhancements involve dynamically controlling the RLC PDU and SDU sizes instead of them being fixed. H-Set 8 is the one FRC that is now defined with 64QAM specifically for testing HSPA+ devices. Refer to the following items::
    • Changes on the HS-SCCH coding scheme to accommodate 64QAM: To be able to support signaling of three modulation formats (QPSK, 16QAM and 64QAM), the coding of HS-SCCHs changes if the UE is configured to be able to use 64QAM modulation type by higher layer signaling and the modulation format on the HS-PDSCHs is 16QAM or 64QAM.
    • New HS-DSCH Transport Block table defined for 64QAM: To support the 64QAM modulation format, a new table of HS-DSCH Transport Block Size and a corresponding table of K0,I of different numbers of channelization codes and modulation schemes are defined in 25.321 v7.8.0. To differentiate the additional K0,I table in release 7 from the existing K0,I table defined in release 5, the former is named octet aligned table, the latter is named bit aligned table. The selection between the two tables in UE depends on 3 Information Elements transmitted from the network which are defined in 25.331 v7.8.0:
      • DL MAC header type
      • Downlink 64QAM configured
      • HS-DSCH TB size table
    • H-SET 8 (64QAM modulation): Each 3GPP FRC H-Set defines a static configuration at the transport channel and physical channel level (for example, block size, number of HS-PDSCHs, inter-TTI distance, number of HARQ processes). The end result is a fixed data rate for the purposes of easier more consistent testing. Each FRC H-Set is associated with a particular UE category. FRC H-Sets 1, 2, 3, 6 and 10 have both QPSK and 16QAM variants, H-Set 4 and 5 only have QPSK variants. This is because UE categories 11 and 12, which are associated with H-Set 4 and 5 respectively, are only capable of QPSK modulation. H-Set 8 only has 64QAM variants. The FRC does not define the MAC-hs and MAC-ehs parameters such as the number of transmissions of a block and the RV sequence, so you must still manually configure these items. H-Set 8 implies that MAC-ehs be applied instead of MAC-hs, octet-aligned HS-DSCH Transport Block Size table be applied. H-Set 8 does not specify the MAC-d PDU size. However, you still need to specify the MAC-ehs SDU size. This can be done using the MAC-d PDU size.

New RB test mode parameters to support testing UE categories greater than 12:
    • MAC-ehs: The use of an octet-aligned table requires MAC-ehs (see CALL:FDDTest:HSDSchannel:UDEFined:MACEHS:TBSTable:ALIGnment ). MAC-ehs is introduced to support the 64QAM modulation type and MIMO to achieve higher data rate at the MAC layer.
  • Compressed mode is enhanced to support use with HSUPA (see CALL:COMPressed ).
  • HSDPA Features:
    • HSDPA >10Mbps IP data: Downlink throughput with HSDPA using an IP connection is increased to support at least Category 9 devices (10.2Mbps).
    • HSDPA 14.4Mbps RB Test and FDD Test modes and arbitrary configuration of downlink code allocation: Downlink throughput with HSDPA test modes in increased to a maximum of 14.4Mbps (Category 10). Also the ability is provided to flexibly configure channel codes to set up to 15 HS-PDSCHs needed for maximum HSDPA throughput. H-Set 10 allows up to 15 HS-DSCH code channels.
      • Arbitray DL code configuration (collision detection): You can freely set channelization codes in the allowable integer ranges, and the test set will apply a code collision detection procedure on all active channels and report a warning when collision is detected.
      • Implications of Arbitrary DL code configuration on OCNS code selection: You cannot directly activate 384k compressed mode with default code allocation like you could previously. A set of applicable codes must be setup beforehand for 384k compressed mode to avoid code collision between OCNS codes and compressed 384k DPCH code when compressed mode is activated. In order to support this scenario, the test provides one set of code preset functionality to help you quickly allocate one set of applicable code allocation for compressed mode with the 384k downlink channel configuration.
    • Enhanced HSDPA compressed mode allowing it to operate more like a real network:
      • For HSDPA, the standard specifies the compression is performed on an associated 12.2K RMC channel. In addition, according to standard, the UE is not required to listen to the HSDPA downlink channels during transmission gap. The test set provides two modes for HSDPA compressed mode support, either to transmit on HSDPA downlink channels regardless of transmission gap, or to DTX on transmision gap. The test set now provides functionality to either continue to transmit HSDPA data regardless of compressed mode, relying on a re-transmission mechanism for eventual loss of HSDPA data due to compressed mode or DTX on HSDPA channels when they overlap with a transmission gap.
  • Support for Band XII channels (UL/DL); Band XIII channels (UL/DL); Band XIV channels (UL/DL). See CALL:CHANnel , CALL:UPLink:CHANnel[:MCHannel] , CALL:SETup , CALL:STATus:FBINdicator? , CALL:STATus:SETup:RBReconfig:FBINdicator? , CALL:STATus:SETup:TCReconfig:FBINdicator? , and CALL:STATus:SETup[:PCReconfig]:FBINdicator? .
  • UMA/GAN Enhancements: The E6703F, when used along with the E6962B GANC software supports:
    • 3G UMA PS data handovers (requires E6708A Enhanced GAN feature license).
    • 2G/GAN/3G one-box handovers Voice and PS data handovers between 2G, 3G, and UMA/GAN are supported (requires E6708A Enhanced GAN feature license).
    • PLMN support

Refer to the E6962B embedded online help for further details.

  • IP Data enhancements:
    • CELL_FACH for PS data (also URA_PCH and CELL_PCH): Transitional states of CELL_FACH, CELL_PCH, and URA_PCH are supported with W-CDMA PS data. Used to optimize battery life and PS data user experience.
    • CELL_FACH enhancements: Support for HSDPA with CELL_FACH, CELL_PCH, and URA_PCH is added along with event triggering for transitions between these states.

      See CALL:SERVice .

  • Audio enhancements:
    • AMR/AMR-WB multi-rate control (dynamic AMR/AMR-WB) both uplink and downlink) . Several configurations are now added to allow for testing of a a UEs adaptive multi-rate capability.
    • RFC 4867 (.amr) file format with DAI Addition of this file format allows longer audio files in a more compressed file to be played back and recorded using the digital audio interface (DAI) with 2G and 3G.
    • Audio routing with GAN : All of the test set's audio functionality works with GAN including audio in/out ports, DAI, and real-time vocoders. Refer to the E6962B online help for details.

      See CALL:SERVice .

  • A-GPS Reset MS Positioning Stored Info message: The Reset UE Positioning Stored Information message can be sent to the UE to clear the UE of the last positioning information it received. This is useful for receiver sensitivity testing. This feature is only available on an active RB test mode or PS data connection. See CALL:PPRocedure:GPSystem:MS:RESet .
  • 3GPP TS 34.121 related enhancements:
    • Independent H-RNTI: The UE identity values sent on the four HS-SCCHs (H-RNTIs) are extended so that all four can be set independently. This provides support for 3GPP TS 34.121 s9.4.1. In this release, you can configure the state of any HS-SCCH to be off, i.e. neither allocating the HS-SCCH in the test set nor configuring the UE to allocate that HS-SCCH through RRC messages when a HSDPA or HSPA connection is established (see CALL:FDDTest:HSSCchannel[1]:CONFig:STATe ).
    • Existing preset call configurations have been expanded to add configurability for the HSDPA and HSUPA sub-tests defined in the 3GPP TS 34.121 Annex C tables. This has added 26 new preset call configurations. Previously there were (5) HSDPA and (2) HSPA preset call configuration settings. These are retained as the "generic" setups but additional sub-set setups are added.
    • Support for two new data types (PRBS20 and PRBS23) is provided for use with W-CDMA or HSDPA channels. This adds compliance for 3GPP TS 34.121 s9.2.1A, C, D, E, F, and G. Sections 9.2.1H and I are also supported when 64QAM is the selected modulation type (see CALL:FDDTest:HSDSchannel:DATA , CALL:DTCHannel:DATA , and CALL:HSDPa:SERVice:RBTest:HSDSchannel:DATA ).
    • The ranges of the relative levels for the E-HICH, E-AGCH, and ERGCH are extended to support 3GPP TS 34.121 sections 10.2.1.1, 10.3.1.1, 10.3.1.2, and 10.4.1.
    • The AG Pattern has been extended to 8 values, adding support for 34.121 section 10.4.1 test. When the Absolute Grant mode parameter is set to "Pattern" then the application will transmit a continuous sequence of values to the UE over the E-AGCH (see CALL:HSUPa ).
  • Equivalent PLMN List - allows you to set a list of equivalent PLMN identities that is sent to the UE. See Equivalent PLMN List for more information.

Measurements

  • HSUPA IQ tuning, phase discontinuity measurement, waveform quality. EVM measurements are enhanced to support use with HSUPA.
  • SEM enhancement: This 34.121 measurement has been modified for certain frequency bands that have small frequency separation. Also added an absolute measurement result to the standard and this has been incorporated.

Other Features

  • The Global Position System (GPS) feature allows you to generate GPS signals to calibrate the GPS receiver of the mobile. See Single Channel GPS Source .
  • In this release the 2nd RF Source (Option 002) is required to allow you to set the RF Gen Configure parameter to GPS, however future releases will not require this option.

This is a maintenance release to resolve the known issues detailed in the previous release. The features offered in this release are otherwise identical to those offered in the E.01.13 Release (E6703E) - September 2008 with the following key exceptions:

  • The value for RLC SDU window size has been increased when on a 5.7Mbps HSUPA IP data to increase IP data throughput for some devices (from 1024 to UE reported max AM RLC Window size).
  • The frequency band ranges have been extended for the Fast Device Tune measurement. See Fast Device Tune MS TX/RX Parameters .

E.01.13 Release (E6703E) - September 2008

The E6703E Release E.01.13 includes all of the features and functionality present in the prior E6703E Subscription Releases which were made available early to Annual Contract owners.

This release also includes all of the features and functionality present in the E1963A W-CDMA Test Application Release A.13 (see A.13.13 Release - September 2008 ), and the features described below.

Please be aware that this release has specific hardware requirements to be able to run correctly.

To determine if a hardware upgrade is required for this release, please review the hardware requirement information at:

http://www.keysight.com/find/8960upgrades

Call Processing

  • 5.7 Mbps HSUPA IP data: Uplink rates up to 5.7 Mbps (E-DCH category 6 devices) are now supported.

Known Issues

  • Using save/recall causes HSUPA 2ms settings to un-synchronize between host and protocol.
  • The SYSTem:APPLication:CATalog:LICense:APPLication:ALL? command does not function.
  • Cannot camp to band IX.
  • Web pages are sometimes not properly displayed on the mobile when Web browsing.
  • An assert occurs when attempting a PCR handoff between bands (for example, 1 to 2, 2 to 5, 5 to 1) with a PDP context established using "Reported CQI" during an FTP.
  • If your test set has 2 LAN ports (LAN 1 PORT and LAN 2 PORT) on the test set's rear panel but you are running an application other than the E6703U, then ignore any set up references to the LAN 2 PORT and use the LAN 1 PORT instead.

You can confirm whether or not the LAN 2 PORT is functional by pressing the Instrument Setup (F1 ) key on the test set's front panel. If you do not see a menu item titled LAN IP Address 2 (Data+) , a LAN 2 connection is not present and you must use the LAN 1 PORT instead.

The LAN 2 PORT will be functional in a future E6703E release.

U.00.33 Special Release (E6703U) - May 2008

This is a maintenance release to resolve the known issue detailed in the previous release. The features offered in this release are otherwise identical to those offered in the U.00.31 Special Release (E6703U) - May 2008 .

E.00.36 Subscription Release (E6703E) - May 2008

This is a maintenance release to resolve the known issue detailed in the previous release. The features offered in this release are otherwise identical to those offered in the E.00.34 Subscription Release (E6703E) - May 2008 .

U.00.31 Special Release (E6703U) - May 2008

NOTE
This release is unavailable due to a critical defect related to test set IP address assignment. Please refer to the top of Known Issues for further details on this issue.

The E6703U can only be loaded onto an E5515C with Special High Data Rate Hardware (or a test set with the equivalent hardware upgrades). Loading the E6703U onto an E5515B or E5515C without the appropriate hardware upgrades will cause the test set to lock up.

You must have a current W-CDMA/HSPA Lab Application Annual Contract to obtain this Subscription Release. Contact your Keysight Sales Representative for more information.

Note, the Special High Data Rate Hardware required to support the E6703U meets the E6703D measurement parametric specifications in a temperature range of 25 °C +/- 5 °C, and has an operating temperature range of 0 to 35 °C.

The features and functionality offered in this release are identical to those offered in the E.00.34 Subscription Release (E6703E) - May 2008 with the following key exceptions:

  • The E6703U Special High Data Rate W-CDMA/HSPA Lab Application (along with the appropriate hardware option) now supports Simultaneous Services for 12.2k AMR + 64k/64k and 12.2k AMR + HSPA configurations. This allows transitions between states of voice only, data only, and voice + data running simultaneously. This capability helps device developers functionally test new devices under real-world conditions.
  • Two-Cell Test System support for handovers between a GSM DTM (Dual Transfer Mode) call and a W-CDMA voice + data connection (Simultaneous Services ).
  • TCP data flood, providing a means of sending and receiving TCP data between the test set and a cellular device with the minimum influence of external PCs on device throughput since no server PC is required. See TCP Data Flood .
  • DUT Routing State - allows you to use the test set as a router when exchanging IP datagrams between the UE and remote servers. See DUT Routing State .

Known Issues

  • The test set incorrectly assigns itself two IP addresses based on the "LAN IP Address" setting in the test set - the IP address specified by the "LAN IP Address" setting and "LAN IP Address" + 1. Thus, the test set will respond to IP traffic directed to "LAN IP Address" and "LAN IP Address + 1". This may result in unexpected network behavior if another device on the network is also assigned to "LAN IP Address" + 1.

    Example:

If you set LAN IP Address = 192.168.1.22, the Test Set will also respond to LAN IP Address = 192.168.1.23. This will result in unexpected network behavior if there is another device on your network set to LAN IP Address = 192.168.1.23.

    Workaround:

Reserve both "LAN IP Address" and "LAN IP Address" + 1 for use by your test set:

    • Ensure that no other device on the network is assigned "LAN IP Address" + 1, including other test sets.
    • Ensure that the test set's other IP addresses, such as "DUT IP Address" and "LAN IP Address 2" are not set to "LAN IP Address" + 1.

  • The 384k downlink compressed mode feature does not operate correctly in this release of the E6703U. Attempting to use the feature in this release will result in dropped calls. This issue will be fixed in a subsequent release of the E6703U.

E.00.34 Subscription Release (E6703E) - May 2008

NOTE
This release is unavailable due to a critical defect related to test set IP address assignment. Please refer to the top of Known Issues for further details on this issue.

This is a Subscription Release of the E6703E application. In order to provide early access to new features, this subscription release has been partially qualified. The new features present in this release have been bench-tested to verify their performance. The previously existing features in this release have undergone a shortened software qualification cycle to verify that they have not been negatively affected by the new features.

You must have a current W-CDMA/HSDPA Lab Application Annual Contract to obtain this Subscription Release. Contact your Keysight Sales Representative for more information.

Call Processing

Measurements

  • The E6703E now includes three additional 34.121 Preset Call Configurations for reporting of Channel Quality Indicator measurements; 9.3.1 with 16QAM (Cat 1 to 6), 9.3.1 with 16QAM (Cat 7 to 8), and 9.3.1 with QPSK (Cat 11 to 12).
  • A Histogram graphical display has been added for representation of Channel Quality Indicator measurement results.
  • The E6703E now includes CPICH RSCP reporting, displaying UE reported measurement of signal strength (Received Signal Code Power).

  • In this release of the E6703E, a performance issue exists with HSUPA (10 ms) RB Test Mode. This configuration works as intended when logging is switched off or when logging basic signaling messages. However, when high data rate logging (for example, MAC) is enabled, performance is degraded (for example, messages will be missed). Full HSUPA RB Test Mode capability with logging enabled, requires special high data rate hardware (E5515C test set with E5515C-H08 or E5515CU-589 HW upgrade) and the special high data rate W-CDMA/HSPA Lab Application (E6703U).
  • When performing a downlink UDP flood on an HSDPA packet data connection, if the over-the-air (OTA) rate is much lower than the UDP rate (due to the CQI Value setting or User-Defined settings, etc.) and you rapidly increase the OTA rate, the test set may assert. Note, this issue does not exist in the E6703U.
  • If your test set does not include the hardware required to enable the Real-Time Vocoder and Digital Audio Interface features, the following warning is posted upon power up "Warning:; Hardware does not support a currently licensed feature. See www.keysight.com/find/8960upgrades for additional information; WCDMA Enhanced Audio." If you would like to enable this enhanced audio functionality in your test set, see www.keysight.com/find/8960upgrades for hardware upgrade information. Otherwise, please disregard this warning.
  • If you attempt to use the real-time vocoder with an incorrect hardware configuration, the following error message appears in the message log: "Operation rejected; feature is not licensed. See www.keysight.com/find/8960upgrades for more information." The wording of this error message is misleading as the error is in fact being caused by an incorrect hardware configuration, not an unlicensed feature. The following warning posted once at start up reports the problem correctly "Warning:; Hardware does not support a currently licensed feature. See www.keysight.com/find/8960upgrades for additional information; WCDMA Enhanced Audio." This issue will be fixed in a subsequent release of the E6703E.
  • The Block Error Ratio (BLER) measurement does not operate correctly when the Channel Type is set to 12.2k RMC + HSPA. The measurement always reports an error ratio of 100% with this channel type. With 12.2k RMC + HSPA, the BLER measurement uses RLC Transparent Mode (TM) and would require the UE Loopback Type to be set to Type 2 in order to loop back data and CRC bits. However, UE Loopback Type is fixed to Type 1 for this configuration, as required by TS 34.109 (refer to section 5.3.1 in TS 34.109, rev 7.2.0). This means that the BLER measurement cannot work correctly. In a subsequent release of the E6703E, the BLER measurement will not be supported for the 12.2k RMC + HSPA Channel Type.
  • The 34.121 presets for HRCQI do not configure several settings correctly. CAT 11,12 phones may fail if the preset configuration is used without changes.

Workaround: Select the 34.121 Preset Call Config for the category phone in use. Change the following settings as shown:

    • HSDPA Cell 1 Connected CPICH Level to -10.0 (is erroneously set to -15.0)
    • HSDPA Cell 1 Connected PICH Level to -15.0 (is not being set at all, existing value left intact)
    • Number of Transmissions to 1 (is not being set at all, existing value left intact)
    • DeltaCqi to 5 (is erroneously set to 3)
    • Ack-Nack Repetition Factor to 1 (is erroneously set to 3)

U.00.20 Special Release (E6703U) - November 2007

Known Issues

  • Connection may drop if Physical Channel Reconfiguration is performed while transferring data on an HSDPA PS Data connection.
  • System Handover from the W-CDMA/HSDPA format to the GSM/GPRS/EGPRS format fails if any of the following GSM/GPRS/EGPRS format parameters are set as follows:
    • Frequency Hopping set to On .
    • Logical Speech Channel set to WFS (Wideband Full) .
  • If the Transport Channel Reconfiguration fails and the connection drops while TCR Timing Indication (CFN Handling) is set to Maintain and TCR Relative DPCH Frame Offset is set to 256 chips (because, for example, your UE does not support this functionality), subsequent attempts to reestablish the connection may then fail. You must change Default DPCH Offset (DOFF) (under Cell Info (F2 )>>Cell Parameters ) to a value other than the current setting, then set it to the desired setting, then reestablish the connection.
  • Two-Cell Test System: If you establish a voice call with the GSM/GPRS/EGPRS test set, then perform an External 8960 Handover to the W-CDMA/HSDPA test set, when you attempt to hand back to the GSM/GPRS/EGPRS test set, an error is posted. If you establish the voice call with the W-CDMA/HSDPA test set initially, then you can successfully hand the call back and forth between the two test sets without error.

Call Processing

  • The Two-Cell Test System now supports inter-RAT voice handovers (W-CDMA/HSDPA <--> GSM/GPRS/EGPRS).
  • The following settings have been changed/added in support of 7.2 Mbps HSDPA IP data throughput. Although these changes are present in both the E6703E and E6703U, you must have the E6703U (and the appropriate hardware option) to achieve 7.2 Mbps HSDPA IP data throughput.
    • The PS Data First HS-PDSCH Channelization Code can now be set to 5 and 6 (the new range is 5-10), and the default has been changed to 5 (from 7).
Note, the default value for the CALL:HSDPa:SERVice:PSData:HSPDschannel:CCODe command has changed from CODE7 to CODE5 .
    • New PS Data User Defined Active HS-PDSCHs setting.
  • If your test set includes the required hardware (see Hardware Requirements ) uplink Betac can now be set to 1 via the following settings:
  • Support for Band X (see Channel (UARFCN) Parameters ).
    • The range of the Transmit SIB5bis setting has been expanded to include Band X (BAND10 ) and Standard Bands (SBANds ). The default has changed from Bands IV & IX to Standard Bands (and the default value for the CALL[:CELL]:BCCHannel:SIB5:BIS command has changed from BAND49 to SBANds ).

The E6703T can only be loaded onto an E5515C with Special High Data Rate Hardware (or a test set with the equivalent hardware upgrades). Loading the E6703T onto an E5515B or E5515C without the appropriate hardware upgrades will cause the test set to lock up.

Note, the Special High Data Rate Hardware required to support the E6703T meets the E6703D measurement parametric specifications in a temperature range of 25 °C +/- 5 °C, and has an operating temperature range of 0 to 35 °C.

The features and functionality offered in this release are identical to those offered in the D.00.08 Subscription Release (E6703D) - August 2006 , with the following key exceptions:

  • The E6703T Special High Data Rate W-CDMA/HSDPA Lab Application (along with the appropriate hardware option) supports the maximum IP data throughput of HSDPA UE categories 1-6, 11 and 12. This allows you to test 3.6 Mbps HSDPA IP data throughput for category 5 and 6 UEs.
  • Two GPRS Radio Access Bearer s, 128k UL/HSDPA DL PS and 384k UL/HSDPA DL PS , are only accessible in the E6703T with the appropriate hardware option. Attempting to select these RABs in the E6703D causes an error.
  • The E6703T (along with the appropriate hardware option) supports enabling compressed mode for 384k downlink channels (if you try to enable compressed mode while on a 384k downlink channel in the E6703D, an error is posted).
  • You must use the LAN 2 PORT for transferring data to the test set.

For information on how to use these E6703T features, see the "E6703T User Documentation" topic in the following CHM Help File (this CHM Help File also includes information on how to use the features that are common to the E6703D and E6703T):

NOTE: To properly view the CHM Help File, you must save it to your desktop. For Windows XP, you must also then right-click on the file and select Properties>>Unblock.

Known Issues

  • When using the two-cell test system with one or more E6703T applications, note the following:
Before establishing an External Device Connection with a remote test set, you must enter the LAN IP Address of the remote test set into the Ext 8960 IP Addr field of the originating test set. If you originate the connection from an E703D application, the LAN IP Address of the originating test set is then displayed in the Connected Device IP Address field of the remote test set.
However, if you originate the connection from an E6703T application, the Connected Device IP Address displayed on the remote test set is the E703T test set's LAN IP Address 2 (rather than LAN IP Address ). Regardless, do not enter LAN IP Address 2 into the Ext 8960 IP Addr field when connecting to an E6703T test set; the External Device Connection attempt will fail. You must always enter the LAN IP Address into the Ext 8960 IP Addr field.

D.00.08 Subscription Release (E6703D) - August 2006

This is a Subscription Release of the E6703D application.

A downloadable version of the Online User's Guide (CHM Help File) that is specific to this release is available at:

http://www.home.keysight.com/upload/cmc_upload/All/E6703D_D0008.chm

NOTE: To properly view the CHM Help File, you must save it to your desktop. For Windows XP, you must also then right-click on the file and select Properties>>Unblock.

Resolved Known Issues

The following known issues have been resolved in this release:

  • When on an HSDPA Packet Data connection:
    • The Current Service Type is reported as PS Data rather than PS Data - HSDPA (and the CALL:STATus:SERVice:TYPe? query returns GPRS rather than PSDH ).
    • The Data Throughput Monitor's OTA graph results contain the MAC-hs throughput (only acknowledged bits are counted, so an increase in NACKs decreases the OTA throughput; this is the same result returned by the HSDPA counters). The OTA graph is intended to display L1 throughput (all bits passed to L1 from MAC-hs are counted).
  • If Current UE HS-DSCH Category is NAN (9.91E+37 or "----") and you try to originate an HSDPA connection when RB Test HS-DSCH Configuration Type is set to User Defined , the test set will assert. If your UE does not report a UE category upon registering with the test set, set UE HS-DSCH Category Control to Manual and set Manual UE HS-DSCH Category to your UE's category before originating an HSDPA connection.

Call Processing

  • Added support for two-cell inter-RAT data cell reselection and Cell Change Order (W-CDMA/HSDPA <--> GSM/GPRS/EGPRS). See Two-Cell Test System .
  • New External 8960 Handover .
  • New Cell Information menu replaces Cell Parameters menu on front panel Call Control 2 of 5 (F2 ). The Cell Information menu includes the Cell Parameters menu, the new Reselection Parameters menu and the new Access Restriction Parameters menu. Note that the Cell Reselection Parameters menu includes Sintersearch and Sintrasearch , which were moved from the Cell Parameters menu.
  • New SIB11 Cell Info List settings:
  • Active Cell Compressed Mode enhancements

The compressed mode feature now allows you to specify up to 4 TGPSs (Transmission Gap Pattern Sequences), versus just one. Each TGPS can have a different measurement purpose, and can include one or two transmission gap lengths. Compressed mode is also now available on all connection types and channel configurations (RMC, AMR, CS Data, PS Data) except 384k RMC and any 384k downlink channel (previously compressed mode was only available on a 12.2k RMC connection). Six compressed mode preset configurations have been added to help you easily configure compressed mode from the front panel. Three new GSM UE measurement results are now available.

Compressed Mode Parameters: Shared Compressed Mode Parameters

    Compressed Mode Parameters: TGPS Parameters

    • New <num> TGPS State settings (for First TGPS through Fourth TGPS ).

  • New UE-to-8960LAN Video Call feature. The Synchronous/Transparent CS Data Service in the test set now supports UE-to-8960LAN video calls (previously it only supported UE-to-UE video calls using two test sets and two UEs). The UE-to-8960LAN video call feature is used to establish a 3G-324M video call between a UE and an external device using a single test set (the test set is used to establish a call with the UE and then route the data on the bearer to/from an external device via its LAN Port ). The UE-to-8960LAN video call can be originated by the UE or by the external device.
  • New Video Call Type parameter.
  • New Transmit SIB5bis setting.

This is a maintenance release to resolve known issues. The features offered in this release are identical to those offered in the T.00.02 Special Release (E6703T) - April 2006 .

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

T.00.02 Special Release (E6703T) - April 2006

The E6703T can only be loaded onto an E5515C with Special High Data Rate Hardware (or a test set with the equivalent hardware upgrades). Loading the E6703T onto an E5515B or E5515C without the appropriate hardware upgrades will cause the test set to lock up.

Note, the Special High Data Rate Hardware required to support the E6703T meets the E6703D measurement parametric specifications in a temperature range of 25 °C +/- 5 °C, and has an operating temperature range of 0 to 35 °C.

The features and functionality offered in this release are identical to those offered in the D.00.03 Subscription Release (E6703D) - April 2006 , with the following key exceptions:

  • The E6703T Special High Data Rate W-CDMA/HSDPA Lab Application (along with the appropriate hardware option) supports the maximum IP data throughput of HSDPA UE categories 1-6, 11 and 12. This allows you to test 3.6 Mbps HSDPA IP data throughput for category 5 and 6 UEs.
  • New GPRS Radio Access Bearers: 128k UL/HSDPA DL PS or 384k UL/HSDPA DL PS .
  • You must use the new LAN 2 PORT for transferring data to the test set.

Resolved Known Issues

The following E6703D known issues have been resolved in the E6703T:

  • When on an HSDPA Packet Data connection, the Data Throughput Monitor's OTA graph results contain the MAC-hs throughput.
  • If Current UE HS-DSCH Category is NAN (9.91E+37 or "----") and you try to originate an HSDPA connection when RB Test HS-DSCH Configuration Type is set to User Defined , the test set will assert.

D.00.03 Subscription Release (E6703D) - April 2006

This is a Subscription Release of the E6703D application.

A downloadable version of the Online User's Guide (CHM Help File) that is specific to this release is available at:

http://www.home.keysight.com/upload/cmc_upload/All/E6703D_D0003.chm

NOTE: To properly view the CHM Help File, you must save it to your desktop. For Windows XP, you must also then right-click on the file and select Properties>>Unblock.

Known Issues

  • Manual Uplink DPCH Bc and RB Test Mode TCR Manual Uplink DPCH Bc parameters can be set to 1, and a value of 1 is signalled to the UE. However, the underlying functionality to support this configuration is not fully implemented in the test set. As a result, connections made in this configuration are unstable.
  • When on an HSDPA Packet Data connection:
    • The Current Service Type is reported as PS Data rather than PS Data - HSDPA (and the CALL:STATus:SERVice:TYPe? query returns GPRS rather than PSDH ).
    • If the PS Data HS-DSCH Configuration Type you've entered requires a "Reference Power Adjustment" as per 3GPP TS 25.214, the test set adjusts the power in the HS-PDSCHs accordingly. However, the Current Sum of Active HS-PDSCHs value present on the Generator Information screen is not updated.
    • The HS-SCCH and HS-PDSCH Conn Desired values on the Generator Information screen always show a value of Off , regardless of the HSDPA Connected DL Channel Levels .
    • If your test configuration causes a high HSDPA BLER (for example, due to a high level of AWGN or a high CQI Value ), throughput may drop to zero. If ending and re-establishing the connection does not solve the problem, you must change your configuration so as to lower HSDPA BLER.
    • The E6703D's HSDPA packet data service allows packet data connections to be established with HSDPA UEs of category 1-6, 11 and 12. However, it does not support the maximum throughput of all of these UE categories. Actual throughput achieved depends on many variables such as the number of sessions established and the type of PS application used. However, the E6703T Special High Data Rate W-CDMA/HSDPA Lab Application (along with the appropriate hardware option) does support the maximum throughput of categories 1-6, 11 and 12 (3.6 Mbps for UE categories 5 and 6). Contact your local Keysight sales representative for more information regarding the E6703T.

NOTE
The settable ranges for CALL:CHANnel and CALL:UPLink:CHANnel have changed due to changes in 3GPP TS 25.101. Some channels are no longer available. See the Requirements information at CALL:CHANnel and CALL:UPLink:CHANnel:CHANnel for more information.

  • Protocol Logging: (see Protocol Logging )

The E6703A Lab Application enables the test set to capture the exchange of control and data information between the test set and a UE (user equipment). Captured information is forwarded to a software application that runs on a personal computer under the Windows operating system.

The software application is referred to as the WPA (Wireless Protocol Advisor). It is tailored for the capture, display, and analysis of message exchange protocols between the test set (emulating a base station), and a UE.

  • Data Channel: (see Data Channel )
