How Do I Ping a Device From the Test Set?

This section is only applicable to the lab application.

You can use the Ping feature of the test set to:

Ping the DUT from the test set

  1. From the test set front panel, press the CALL SETUP key.
  2. Press the left More key two times until Call Control 3 of 3 is displayed.
  3. Press the Data Channel Info ( F2 ) key.
  4. Press the Data Channel Parameters ( F1 ) key.
  5. Select the DUT IP Address and enter a proper IP address assigned to your AT.

       
    NOTE
    The DUT's IP address must be on the same subnet as the test set's IP Address. See IP Address Requirements .

       

  6. Press F6 ( Close Menu ) to close the Data Channel Parameters menu.
  7. Press F6 ( Return ), go back to Call Control 3 of 3 menus.
  8. Press the Ping ( F3 ) key.
  9. Press the Ping Setup ( F1 ) key and verify that Device to Ping is set to DUT . If required, set the Ping Count , Timeout , and Packet Size .
  10. Verify that the current packet data connection status indicates Connected or Dormant . Otherwise, follow the procedure of How Do I Make a Packet Data Connection? to establish a packet data connection.
  11. Press Start Ping ( F3 ) key. If the connection is good, the DUT will return packets to the test set and the packet transfer information is displayed on the test set's screen. A typical display is shown below.

Ping an alternate address from the test set

  1. From the test set front panel, press the CALL SETUP key.
  2. Press the left More key two times until Call Control 3 of 3 is displayed.
  3. Press the Ping ( F3 ) key.
  4. Select Ping Setup ( F1 ) .
  5. Set the Alternate Ping Address to your desired target IP address (for example, a remote server running the data applications is connected to the same LAN with your test set).
  6. Set Device to Ping to Alternate .
  7. Select Start Ping( F3 ) . If the connection is good, then the device being pinged (such as the remote server) will return packets to the test set and the packet transfer information is displayed on the test set's screen
