E6701T User Documentation

The features and functionality present in the E6701T Special GSM/GPRS/EGPRS Lab Application are identical to those offered in the E6701E GSM/GPRS/EGPRS Lab Application, with the exceptions described in this document. For information on how to use the features that are common to the E6701E and E6701T, see the GSM/GPRS/EGPRS online user's guide located at:

The E6701T can only be loaded onto an E5515C with Special High Data Rate Hardware (or a test set with the equivalent hardware upgrades). Contact your local Keysight Sales Representative for more information, or visit www.keysight.com/find/8960upgrades.

In a test set with Special High Data Rate Hardware, the standard Protocol Processor is replaced with a High Data Rate Protocol Processor, and the test set's rear panel is modified to include a new LAN 2 PORT , which you must use for sending data to the test set (previously the LAN 1 PORT was used for this purpose).

LAN 2 PORT

The Special High Data Rate Hardware required to run the E6701T includes a modified rear panel with a new LAN 2 PORT . To use the E6701TData Channels functionality (to establish an Packet-Switched Data connection, for example), you must connect your data server to LAN 2 PORT , rather than to LAN 1 PORT as in the past. LAN 1 PORT is still used for all other LAN operations such as protocol logging, firmware downloads and screen captures.

The LAN 2 PORT connects directly to the test set's High Data Rate protocol processor, as shown in the block diagram below.

You must configure the address of the LAN 2 PORT using theLAN IP Address 2 (Data+) setting (see Configuring the Test Set's LAN for general information about LAN IP addresses). LAN IP Address 2 (Data+) must not be the identical to theLAN IP Address setting, and must be on the same subnet as theLAN IP Address setting. IfLAN IP Address orSubnet Mask is changed such thatLAN IP Address 2 (Data+) is identical to or is no longer on the same subnet asLAN IP Address , thenLAN IP Address 2 (Data+) is set to0.0.0.0 and a warning is posted.

LAN IP Address 2 (Data+) is accessible from theInstrument Setup menu on theSystem Config Screen . The GPIB command forLAN IP Address 2 (Data+) isSYSTem:COMMunicate:LAN[:SELF]:ADDRess2<sp><string> . See SYSTem:COMMunicate:GPIB:[:SELF]:ADDRess for range information.

External Device Connection/Two-Cell Test System Considerations

When establishing anExternal Device Connection using one or more test sets running the E6703U, you must connect both the LAN 1 PORT and LAN 2 PORT to the LAN switch.
When establishing anExternal Device Connection from a test set running the E6703U, the destination test set displays the E6703U'sLAN IP Address 2 (Data+) underConnected Device IP Address .
When establishing an External Device Connection to a test set running the E6703U, you must set the originating test set'sExt 8960 IP Addr to theLAN IP Address 2 (Data+) of the E6703U test set (unless you've connected the two test sets via a hub and have connections to the E6703U test set's LAN 1 PORT and LAN 2 PORT ; in that case you can setExt 8960 IP Addr to the E6703U test set'sLAN IP Address orLAN IP Address 2 (Data+) .)
When performing two-cell PS data transfer cell reselections (see Two-Cell Test System ), the data rate is limited by the data rate capability of the test set that established the PDP context with the mobile. This is because when a mobile has an active PDP context with one test set and transitions to another, a tunnel is created to route data to and from the mobile via the originating test set. The originating test set must continue to act as the end-point for the IP connection, regardless of the location of the mobile, and to forward any received packets to the test set currently serving the mobile. Thus, to achieve high data rates during cell reselection using a high data rate test set and a standard test set, you must start the PDP context on the high data rate test set.
