MAC Control

Last updated: December 2, 2008

There are several user configurable RLC/MAC protocol layer parameters. These include:

Assigned USF Granularity

USF granularity specifies the number of RLC/MAC blocks that need to be transmitted by the mobile station on an uplink TBF.

Whenever the mobile station detects an assigned USF value on an assigned PDCH, the mobile station will transmit either a single RLC/MAC block or a sequence of four RLC/MAC blocks on the same PDCH for that TBF except if that TBF is running in extended uplink TBF mode, in which case the mobile station may transmit RLC/MAC block(s) for other TBFs assigned on the same PDCH. The number of RLC/MAC blocks to transmit is controlled by the USF Granularity parameter characterizing the uplink TBF.

USF granularity can take on two values:

Any changes to this parameter while a TBF is in progress will take place immediately.

The GPIB command to set this parameter is CALL:(PDTCH|PDTChannel):MACCess[:DYNamic]:USFLag[:ASSigned]:GRANularity .

Power Reduction Mode

The Power Reduction (PR) field in the Packet Downlink Assignment and Packet Uplink Assignment message is used to help the mobiles in the GPRS/EGPRS network to determine the transmission power used to transmit a current downlink RLC/MAC blocks. The PR field consists of PR Mode and P0 values.

The GPIB command to set P0 is CALL:(PDTCH|PDTChannel):PZERo:LEVel .

The GPIB command to set PR Mode is CALL:(PDTCH|PDTChannel):PREDuction:MODE .
