Changing Windows Settings

Last Updated: August 29, 2007

The test set's Windows settings have been optimized for best performance. Any modifications to these settings may degrade the test set's performance and measurement speed. In general, most Windows settings (typically set through the Windows Control Panel) should not be modified.

This topic provides the following sections with information on Windows settings:

To recover from problems caused by changing Windows settings, you may have to reinstall the test set's system software using the Agilent Recovery System.

Settings You Can Change

You may change the following Windows settings or perform the administrative tasks (available from the Windows Control Panel) to suit your own personal preferences.

Before you change any Windows settings from the Windows desktop, you should exit the test set's application software.

You may use this feature:

To:

Configure Automatic Updates.

Install and configure an antivirus program.

Set up new user accounts on the test set.

Do not delete or modify the  “Agilent-Only" user account. This account is required by Agilent for customer support purposes.

Add the test set to a network.

Install and configure a printer.

Set the date and time.

Settings You Must Not Change

Avoid changing any settings in this section. Changes to the following settings may degrade the test set's performance, screen displays, and measurement speed.

Do NOT use this feature:

To:

Modify the configuration for the Internal LAN network connection.

  • The Internal LAN IP address should remain set to the static IP address of 192.168.0.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.

  • The Windows Firewall should be left disabled for the Internal LAN.

Modify the Windows Firewall state for the Internal LAN. The Windows Firewall must be left disabled for the Internal LAN.

Modify any of the factory configured Windows Firewall exceptions on the Exceptions tab.

Change any power options.

Modify any of the items on the Hardware tab.

Modify any of the items on the Advanced tab.

Remove installed fonts.

Change the following display settings:

  • On the Screen Saver tab, do not change the screen saver from (None).

  • On the Settings tab, do not change the screen resolution from 1024 x 768 pixels.

  • On the Appearance tab:

  • Do not change Windows and buttons: from Windows XP Style to Windows Classic Style.

  • Do not change Font Size: to Extra Large Fonts.

When shipped from the factory, the display configuration of the test set is optimized to try to ensure the best display performance for normal use of the test set's applications. As a result, any changes that you make to the display configuration (for example, modifying the Color scheme) could result in a degraded display environment for the test set's applications. Therefore, care should be taken before making any modifications to the test set's display settings.

Modify any of the folder properties for folders with NFS sharing enabled.

Disable MouseKeys on the Mouse tab.  Doing so disables use of the MouseKeys key on the test set's front panel.

Delete or modify the “Agilent-Only" user account. This account is required by Agilent for customer support purposes.

Actions You Must Not Take

In addition to the details in the previous section about Windows settings you must not change, the following list identifies other actions you must not take to ensure that the test set continues to operate correctly:
