Getting Started with Data Connection Processing

Most of the information in the Data Connection Processing section describes the features and functionality available in the Active Cell and IS-856 Test operating modes. While in these modes, the test set includes a base station emulator which allows you to establish a data connection between the test set and your wireless device (with signalling when in Active Cell Operating Mode or by the device synchronizing to the forward link when in IS-856 Test Operating Mode ). You can then perform many data connection operations and measurements.

The 1x EV-DO system supports a number of different applications. Each application defines a unique set of procedures and capabilities. The E1966A supports test application protocols (TAP/ETAP) that are defined by the C.S0029 standard and mainly used for access terminal minimum performance tests in a factory/laboratory environment. For details, see C.S0029 Test Application Specification Description (TAP/ETAP) .

To learn more about the parameters for configuring the base station emulator, see Access Network Emulator Configuration .

To learn more about the various data connection processing states that the test set and access terminal can reside in as you perform data connection operations, see Summary of Data Connection Processing States Description .

To learn more about the messages and parameter values that are exchanged as you establish a test application connection between the test set and access terminal, see TAP/ETAP Data Connection Call Flow .

To learn more about the information reported to the test set by the access terminal (such as UATI, etc.), see Access Terminal Information .

In addition to the test application protocols, the E6706A lab application also supports Default Packet application protocol that is used in actual 1xEV-DO network and provides Internet connectivity to access terminals for transporting real user packet data. All of the real network operation (based on Default Packet connection) are described in Data Channel section including simple IP/mobile IP packet data connection, hybrid mode, etc.
