How Do I Access the Data Counters?

Last updated: May 24, 2006

This section is only applicable to the lab application.

When a test or packet data connection is established (see How Do I Open a Session and Test Data Connection? or How Do I Make a Packet Data Connection? ), the test set provides several data counters to keep a running count of traffic packets on both the forward and reverse link as data is transferred (see Data Counters for a description of these counters).

  1. Press the CALL SETUP key.
  2. Press the left More key and go to Call Control 3 of 3 .
  3. Press the F2 ( Data Channel Info ). The Data Counters table is displayed to provide the RLP (radio link protocol) and IP data information.
  4. (Optional) To clear the counters for IP data, press the F3 ( Clear IP Counters ). To clear the counters for RLP control and data, press the F4 ( Clear RLP Counters ). These counters will also be cleared when the test set cycles power or full presets.
  5. Press the F2 ( Traffic Channel Packet Info ), the Traffic Channel Packet Info screen is displayed providing the number of the traffic channel packets per data rate on both the forward and reverse link. A typical display (in an ETAP test data connection) is shown below. To clear the counters for the traffic channel packets, press the F3 ( Clear Traffic Counters ).
  6. Change the Cell power or AWGN power, then observe how these counters varied. You will see the effects of RF degradation on data rate changes.
  7. You can also view the forward traffic activity from a graph display - Traffic Channel Packet Histogram which can be accessed by press the F4 ( Traffic Channel Histogram ).

The Traffic Channel Histogram display provides the forward traffic activity (the total number of forward traffic packets that is transmitted by the test set to the AT for the given DRC and transmission format) during the most recent time period as specified by the Time Span ( F1 ) (range: 1 to 30 seconds). You can place a marker on any DRC you interested using F5 ( Marker Position ), and pause/resume the histogram display by pressing the F4 ( Pause/Resume Histogram ). To clear the histogram display, press the F3 ( Clear Histogram ).
