Configuring the F-BCCH/F-CCCH Control Channels

This section is only applicable to the lab application and to a test application with the required feature license.

The Forward Broadcast Control channel (F-BCCH) and the Forward Common Control channel (F-CCCH) defined in the IS-2000 standards (for P_REV > 6) are used for transmission of overhead and control information from a base station to the mobile stations.

The test set supports F-BCCH and F-CCCH capabilities when current control channel is F-BCCH/F-CCCH (see Setting Control Channel Parameters for details).

The parameters relating to the F-BCCH/F-CCCH are configured using the CALL:BCCHannel and CALL:CCCHannel subsystem commands.

It is used for F-BCCH E _b /N _t calculation (see F-BCCH Eb/Nt and F-CCCH Eb/Nt ).

It is used for F-CCCH E _b /N _t calculation (see F-BCCH Eb/Nt and F-CCCH Eb/Nt ).

F-BCCH E _b /N _t and F-CCCH E _b /N _t

The F-BCCH E _b /N _t ( CALL:STATus:BCCHannel:EBNTotal? ) and F-CCCH E _b /N _t ( CALL:STATus:CCCHannel:EBNTotal? ) are calculated values (see Example ). They are available only when Cell 1 Power, AWGN Power and F-Paging Channel states are on and determined by:

F-BCCH E _b /N _t (dB) = F-BCCH Level (dB) + Cell Power (dBm/1.23 MHz) + BCCH_Chip_Bit (dB) - AWGN Power (dBm/1.23 MHz)

F-CCCH E _b /N _t (dB) = F-CCCH Level (dB) + Cell Power (dBm/1.23 MHz) + FCCCH_Chip_Bit (dB) - AWGN Power (dBm/1.23 MHz)

Example

Assuming,

Cell Power = -55 dBm/1.23 MHz
AWGN Power = -54 dBm/1.23 MHz
F-BCCH Level = -15.2 dB
F-CCCH Level = -12 dB
F-BCCH Data Rate = 9.6 kbps, corresponding to 21.07 dB
F-CCCH Data Rate = 9.6 kbps, corresponding to 21.07 dB

then,

F-BCCH E _b /N _t (dB) = (-15.2) + (-55) + (21.07) - (-54) = 4.87 dB
F-CCCH E _b /N _t (dB) = (-12) + (-55) + (21.07) - (-54) = 8.07 dB

Fixed F-BCCH/F-CCCH Parameters

The following key parameters relating to F-BCCH/F-CCCH are fixed by the test set.

SR1_NON_TD_FREQ_NON_TD (included in the Sync Channel Message) is fixed to 0:
SR1_CRAT_NON_TD (included in the Sync Channel Message) is fixed to 0 indicating 1/2 code rate for F-BCCH.
SR1_BCCH_CODE_CHAN_NON_TD (included in the Sync Channel Message) is fixed to 1 indicating F-BCCH code channel number 1 (with spread rate 64).
FCCCH_CODE_CHAN (included in the MC-RR Parameter Message) is fixed to 33 indicating F-CCCH code channel number 33 (with spread rate 64 or 128).

Operating Considerations

The F-BCCH/F-CCCH/R-EACH control channels are available only for protocol revision greater than six. See Control Channels Configuration .
The test set only supports one primary broadcast control channel (F-BCCH). It does not support broadcast pages, broadcast SMS.
The test set only supports one forward common control channel (F-CCCH) and a subset of data rate as defined in the standard. See F-CCCH Data Rate .
