Forward Link Overview

 Last updated: October 28, 2004

The "Forward Link" refers to a radio link for the transmission of signals from the test set to a mobile station while the "Reverse Link" refers to a radio link for the transmission of signals from a mobile station to the test set.

This section summarizes the forward link channels supported by the test set in Active Cell operating mode and the key concepts relating to the forward link.

Forward Link Power

When Active Cell are selected in the Operation Mode field, the signals transmitted by the test set include:

The Cell 1 Power is combined with the Cell 2 Power and the AWGN Power, if enabled, to form the total RF power. See Configuring Cell Power and AWGN Power Levels for details.

 Forward Code Channels

The forward link consists of a number of physical channels (identified by their walsh codes) which vary in IS-2000 system and IS-95 system. The test set allows you to control the individual code channels, such as the walsh code, power level, data rate, etc., see Configuring Forward Channel Power Levels and Walsh Codes for details.

 Closed Loop Power Control

The test set also transmits the power control sub-channel which is used in conjunction with open loop power control to control power levels transmitted from the mobile station. See Setting Reverse Closed Loop Power Control for details.

Data Rates and Data Patterns

Data rates available on the FCH (fundamental channel) depend on the RC (radio configuration). See Traffic Data Rate . The data pattern sent on FCH is fixed to 215-1 PRBS.

To set the data rates and data patterns for SCH (supplemental channel), see Configuring the TDSO Supplemental Channel Information .
